Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodniiiight- Review of "Goodnight Tweetheart" by Teresa Medeiros

 Why this book?: It... it just sounded so dang cute!

About the book: Abby Donovan is an author, or was one. Her first book sold so well, and now she's too scared to continue, despite being way past her deadlines, and running out of money quicker than she thought. So in a last ditch effort to get her name back in the public eye, Abby's publicist sets up a twitter account for her. But it's not the fun or ease of twitter that keeps her coming back, it's fellow tweet-er Mark Baynard, the man who helped her figure it all out, and actually understands all her pop culture references. Can Abby and Mark fall in love in 140 characters or less?

Review: I'm not a huge fan of twitter, but I am a big fan of funny, cute contemporary romances. And this books was just that. Told mostly in tweets, Goodnight Tweetheart is the story of Mark and Abby, who meet on Twitter. And even though their conversations are short and quippy, they quickly begin to change each other's lives. There are some moments of traditional writing - Abby's in-person conversations with her editor, or with her best friend, but in my opinion, the best part are the tweets. They also make this a very quick book to read. And if it hadn't been quick, I would have made it so by reading faster to find out what happens.

This is one of the instances I wish I could reveal spoilers, but I refuse. But I will say that "Goodnight Tweetheart" turns out to be something deeper and more meaningful towards the end of the book. The cutesy humor is still there, but there's something so much more touching. And the ending, the last few pages in particular, nearly did me in. I wish there was more to this book, but at the same time - maybe it's best that there isn't. This way, the reader can imagine something better than there might have been. It's always hard when I know something that makes a book one of the best, but I can't share it with readers and prove my point. So in this case, you'll just have to take my word for it.

Cover Loving?: I think this cover really fits the book. And I love the tagline "A love story in 140 characters or less."

Recommendation: Definitely. Love some humor with your romance? Check it out. Want some deeper meaning? GET IT! Fans of contemporary romance, or romance in general, should jump all over "Goodnight Tweetheart."

Final rating: FOUR POINT FIVE out of FIVE (4.5/5). Seriously. The ending just did it for me. This book probably would have been a little under a four if it wasn't for the reveal and ending - I loved the final chapter that much.

I'll Have What She's Having - Review of "When Harry Met Molly" by Kieran Kramer

 Haha, see what I did with the title of this review? Yeah yeah, I'm so clever. =)

Why this book?: Well, after seeing the summary on the back of the book, how could I pass it up?

Cover Lovin': Not the best I've ever seen, surely. But I like it. Simple, and elegant.About the book: Harry and Molly have quite the past. The Christmas Incident was years ago, but it has affected both their lives to this day. When they meet again in a rather seedy pub, Harry's mistress takes off with Molly's fiance, leaving her without a ride, and him without some to help him compete in this year's Impossible Bachelor's Mistress games. Harry convinces Molly to be his pretend mistress for the next week, promising to help find her a more than suitable husband if she wins the festivities. Molly quickly learns that being a pretend mistress is not the easiest thing for a proper lady. This week is going to be a lot harder than both of them thought...

My Review: Occasionally you find a Historical, Romance or otherwise, that requires a fair amount of imagination. This might just be one of these books - it's hard to believe that these sort of circumstances would actually happen, and that there would be no huge blow-out scandal resulting from it. And surely, no eligable titled bachelor would be able to go a year without receiving some sort of marriage proposition - Prince Regent's orders or no. And the ending did have some sappy moments. There were some sappy, pour your heart out moments by characters you would expect to act otherwise. But, it all leads up to that beautiful Happy Ever After feeling that I so love in my romances.

I'm a big fan of the enemies-to-lovers scenario in romance, and this is a great example. Harry and Molly weren't really enemies. They shared a scandal some years ago, blamed each other, and spent any time they had seen each other after that playing pranks on one another. The banter between the two was amusing and felt spot-on. And the easy going friendship that begins to develop is heartwarming, and charming. Harry and Molly seem young and fresh, not afraid to tease each other and joke, even in some serious situations, and I loved watching them interact with each other as well as with all the equally fascinating and loveable side characters.

Recommendation: Definitely. Fans of Historical Romance, and just good characters in general will enjoy "When Harry Met Molly" by Kieran Kramer.

Final Rating: FOUR POINT FIVE out of FIVE (4.5/5)

Rawr! Review of "Eat Prey Love" by Kerrelyn Sparks

 Haha, can I just say how much I love this title? Genius!

Type: Series, Romance, Paranormal Romance, Shifters, Vampires, Werepanthers, Weretigers, Psychic Powers, Puddles of... is that what I think it is?!

Why this book?: Originally this book was on my "I'll read it if I see it somewhere for cheap" list, but the lovely ladies at Smart Bitches, Trashy Books mentioned a particular scene (the word "splooge" was used.. a lot) and, well.. I had to see what they meant.

About the book: Caitlyn Whelan has just reconnected with her sister after being kept apart for years. Now, not only will they remain in touch, they'll be working for the same company. Caitlyn has always had a very useful psychic gift - being able to communicate with humans and most animals, no matter what the language. And she always had a thing for stray animals. Carlos is a werepanther, one of the last few left in the world. And he just got a tip that there might be some more werepanthers in a remote region. Despite fighting the decision, and his attraction to Caitlyn, she is assigned to be his translator on the trip. Now the two must battle the harshness of the jungle, and a group of mysterious men who all have the same odd tattoo...

For the longest time, I couldn't make myself read anything by this author. I'm not sure why, maybe because I didn't like one of the earlier books in this series. But since then, I have read "The Undead Next Door," "The Vampire and the Virgin," and now "Eat Prey Love," and it's been all good experiences. Kerrelyn Sparks is definitely on her way to being an author I love. And "Eat Prey Love" was definitely another good installment in the series. I loved the banter between the two characters - Caitlyn was quippy, amusing, and the two played off each other perfectly. Caitlyn knew she liked Carlos, knew that he liked her too but wasn't going to act on it, so she took it upon herself to flirt. And it was brilliant. Caitlyn is the kind of person I want to be friends with, and not just because she can talk to animals (which would be awesome!). And Carlos - well, he'd definitely be more than a friend.

I did feel like the ending felt a bit rushed, however. The book had some excellent descriptions (the "splooge cave" scene included), but suddenly the excitement was over, and it seemed like the author only had a short amount of space left, so she had to tidy up and get through it too quickly. Don't get me wrong, it's a satisfying ending, but it just seemed everything happened too quickly, and we were getting a summary of the events, rather than actually reading them as it happened.

So all in all, I did enjoy this book. I look forward to reading more of this series and seeing some of the characters we meet (weretiger!) in future books - maybe he'll get his own story, which would be nice. And this novel has definitely been the book that made me want to go back and read more of the series, maybe even give the one I read and didn't like a second chance.

Recommendation: Definitely recommending this to fans of good Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy. And people who just enjoy awesome snarky female characters.

Final rating: FOUR out of FIVE (4/5).

This weeks question: What makes up your non-human family?

Well, at this time, it's just the two doggies - Coconut and Brandy. Coco is a Bichon Frise, and Brandy is a Toy Poodle. In the past I've had a guinea pig, hamsters, a bunny, fish.. but now, just the pups. Which works for me, they're my little cuddle buddies.

For a little more about me - Welcome to my blog! I review a mix of fiction, mostly Romance, Paranormal Romance (both adult and young adult), and science fiction/fantasy. I certainly am! Review of "Rough, Raw, and Ready" by Lorelei James

Howdy folks. I know I'm certainly in the mood for some rough and tough cowboys. And this book just about did the trick. Sexy cowboy overload! Are you Rough, Raw and Ready (Rough Riders) ?

Type: Series, Cowboys, Menage-a-trois, M/M/F, Emotional Baggage, Marriage +1, I'm totes jealous of this girl.

Why this book?: I'm working my way through the Rough Riders series. My work just got most of them in (except for this one, is that on purpose - considering the content?) and I finally decided to read them all IN ORDER.

About the book: Chassie West Glanzer has got a pretty darn good life, and a super sexy husband - former rodeo champ and buckle-bunny chaser Trevor Glanzer. Their own little ranch is out of the way, so she found it quite odd when a man walked right up to their doorstep. His name is Edgard Mancuso, and he claims to be an old friend of Trevor's. After inviting him to stay for the next few weeks while Edgard's truck is being repaired, Chassie learns Edgard and Trevor's secret. They were lovers years ago, and it's obvious the bond between them hasn't lessened over time. Now Edgard and Chassie have to figure out what to do when they're both in love with the same man. And Trevor couldn't possibly give up either one. Is a solution even possible, or will everyone end up heartbroken?

I have read all the Rough Riders books coming before this one, and while I enjoyed each and everyone one of them - so far, this book is definitely my favorite. Each book was good, certainly, but I could still put them down and go off to do something else while reading. But I couldn't stop reading or thinking about Edgard, Trevor, and Chassie. Their story seems so much more emotional. And yes, there are always going to be cheesy scenes, but I thought the story in this book more than made up for anything else. By now, we all know (or at least you should) that Ms. James can write quite the steamy scene, and there is no lack of those in this book. But this book is just so much more than the sex. It's about dealing with love from the past, and present. And figuring out how to compromise, and how to live without being afraid of what other people will think of you.

The characters rang true, and real. You could practically feel the tension between the two men, and understand Chassie's difficulty at accepting and understanding just how deep Edgar and Trevor's relationship ran. And I definitely identified with Chassie, not just when it comes to confusion, but with her family troubles as well. As a West, related to the McKays but definitely not in tight with the core group, Chassie feels left out when it comes to family issues. Oh, they include her for the most part, but when it comes to something serious, she's left on the sidelines. Except for Trevor, the McKays are all Chassie has left, and you can feel the hurt she deals with. Not to mention Edgard's, and Trevor's family problems.

Recommendation: Heck yes! Everyone that enjoys some good steamy scenes, some even better steamy cowboys, and a emotional thrillride to boot? Pick up your copy today via the link to Amazon.com on the left.
Final rating: FIVE out of FIVE. I've been shying away from such high ratings lately, because while I may enjoy a book, I've realized not everything is perfect. But this book definitely warrants such a great rating. Will the rest of the series measure up? We'll see, I've got the next four on deck, waiting for their turn.
