Now Live: RIDGE by S.L. Scott!

Title: RIDGE
Author: S.L. Scott
Standalone Contemporary Romance

SYNOPSIS
The One didn’t exist.
Then I met Meadow.
The band's honorary little sister was off-limits. Too late for that. She says we’re “nothing serious,” but she’s gotten under my skin and I can’t stop thinking about her. And when I touch her, I know we’re meant to be.
Happy Endings don’t exist.
Not even with Ridge.
My big plans never included falling for a rock star. Too soon for that. He wants to make us a “thing,” and I can’t deny our chemistry is combustible. His persistence is wearing me down, making his proposition hard to resist.
If true love only exists in fairy tales, why am I beginning to believe that Ridge just might be my happily ever after?
This STANDALONE Second Chance Rock Star Romance by New York Times Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, will have you falling in love with Ridge Carson while introducing you to his Sexy as Sin band mates—Jet, Tulsa, and Rivers Crow.

EXCERPT Prologue Dave “Ridge” Carson   Somewhere between El Paso and Tucson, I found my soul under the bright stars of the Southwest. Looking up, I drink her in. Meadow hates when I stare at her, but beauty like hers is rare. Her chin dips down, and she kisses my cheek, trailing more toward my ear where she whispers, “You feel so good inside me.” “You have it all wrong. You make me feel good inside you.” I capture her lips on the edge of a laugh and kiss her while she continues to rock on top of my lap. The sound of our bodies, our skin slick against each other becomes part of the hum of the desert outside the car. A night wind whistles through the cracked open window as the temperatures continue to fall well after sunset. We couldn’t wait—not for a hotel or a rest stop. When her hand dipped to my pants and she rubbed over me, causing my body to react, I pulled over. Time is our enemy. There’s never enough of it when I’m with her. Every time I’m with her, I want to drain every ounce of life from the seconds, minutes, few short hours we get to be with each other. My gaze rolls over the bottom of her jaw as her head tilts back, her mouth open, her bare breasts in front of me. I want to hold her still, hold her here, right the fuck here on top of me. I run my hands over her body as I make love to the woman who’s become an addiction of mine. I breathe better, easier when I’m with her. The music of our bodies together is the only melody I hear. She’s become my friend. My lover. My muse. Lifting up, she eases back down and then lifts again, gripping my shoulders and digging her nails into my skin. The pain is pleasure when doled out in provocative ways. “Dave,” she whispers on the end of a purr. No other name has been uttered in pure ecstasy like the way she says mine. I hold her by the hips in the back seat of the SUV taking in the full view. “Hey,” I say. She comes back to me, her eyes open, her soul exposed in such a vulnerable way, setting my heart on fire. “Hey.” She smiles, and I hold her still again, wanting this to last forever while equally wanting to rush the release. A few sips of the wine we’ve been drinking straight from the bottle make her eyes sparkle. Caught between want and need, her smile is even until the corners, which curve up. It’s a smile that both hurts and heals my heart when it appears. “Don’t leave.” Leaning down, she kisses my forehead, my nose, my mouth. With her lips against mine, she whispers, “I have to go.” I’ve been careful about making plans with her for so long that the words feel foreign to me even now when this feels more intimate than any other time before. Every time with her is like this—better than the last. “I want you to stay.” I fell for the free-spirited beauty long before we left Austin. But like all who are meant to soar, she can’t be caged by antiquated notions of romance. Meadow Fellowes has been clear about what we are or ever could be—nothing serious. But sometimes, when she looks at me, I see more hidden in the emerald pools of her eyes. I understand the yearning. She says, “My flight is tomorrow night.” We’ve been so good at keeping it casual, but nothing serious means we’re fucking because we want to have sex. This isn’t fucking, just like we’re not casual, not to me. “Can you change it? Give us another week. Another day. Give us a chance.” Leaning down, she kisses me and then sits back up. With her palms on my chest, she holds her smile. “I am. By leaving.” Her eyes close, and she starts moving on top of me again. So I grip her a little tighter, holding her while I can. I meet every one of her pushes with a thrust of my own. As she comes back to me, the lids are half-mast, but her gaze is fixed on me. She whispers, “Tell me what you’re thinking.” “I’m thinking how good this feels. Just us. Alone. In the desert, making love, having sex, fucking. All of it. All of you. You feel so good to me. Maybe we should be more to each other.” “You’re more than you know,” she purrs softly and then leans back as if our connection is too much before she starts a slow gyrate. God, she feels amazing. A hand rubs over my chest, and this time, my eyes meet hers, coming back from the hazy edge of release. “We’re not those people.” “What people are those?” “The kind of people who make plans.” Our bodies glide together as I say, “We’ve made plans before.” “Spur-of-the-moment plans. Those don’t count.” “They count.” They fucking count. I want to argue, but my mind clouds as our bodies move of their own volition. My eyes dip closed, and I swim in the moment, buried deep inside her. We fall, tipping over that line that keeps us safe and the one that will end us—heart, body, and soul. It’s where I prefer to be with her. If only we could stay in this place longer than it takes for our breathing to recover. My heart calms, and my breathing steadies. Meadow slides down with me still inside her and rests her head on my shoulder. Her fingers toy with the hairs on my chest before a kiss is placed on my neck. “Six months,” she says. “I’ll be back in six months.” I tighten my arms around her. I don’t care that my body’s too big for this back seat or that we’re covered in sweat. All that matters is that I have her in my arms for a short time, and I intend to savor every second until she boards that plane.

Out Now: ACCIDENTALS by Sarina Bowen!

Accidentals by Sarina Bowen

Coming July 10th

SUMMARY

A YA novel from USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

Never ask a question unless you’re sure you want the truth.

I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my mp3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face.

My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong.

When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of – not at this cost.

Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul.

There’s a secret shame that comes from being an unwanted child. It drags me down, and puts distance between me and the boy I love.

My father is the only one alive who knows my history. I need the truth, even if it scares me.

EXCERPT

After the last course—chocolate mousse—the three of us go tripping back across
the cold lawn in the dark, Aurora in the lead. I’m the tiniest bit tipsy and wearing heels.
So naturally I stumble on a frozen clod of snow and nearly fall. But Jake catches my
hand to steady me. “Thanks,” I breathe.
Curiously, his warm fingers remain curled around mine until we reached the door
of Habernacker.
I try not to feel ridiculously excited about it.
He lets go when we all reach the third floor. When Aurora opens the door, he
follows us inside until we all collapse on the S.L.O., with me in the center.
“Oh! I forgot to steal my plate,” I realize.
“Me too.” Aurora sighs.
Jake reaches into his jacket and pulls out a plate.
“Well done, Mr. Jake!” Aurora laughs. “The party in the annex starts in fifteen
minutes.” She heaves herself off the squishy couch. “I have time to redo my makeup.”
I watch her walk over to the stereo, where my phone is already ensconced, and
turn on our Christmas playlist. Then she grabs her makeup bag off her desk and leaves
the room.
When the door clicks shut, neither Jake nor I speak for a moment. The low
chords of a Straight No Chaser song play through our little speakers.
Suddenly, it’s awkward. We’ve been circling each other for a while now—since
the night he was trying to be nice and I wrecked it.

“You’re probably sick of a cappella by now,” I say, just to find something to talk
about.
But Jake turns slowly toward me and says something unexpected. “Rachel, I
need to ask you a question.”
My stomach does a little flip flop, and I turn to face those blue eyes I love so
much. “What?” I whisper.
“Well…” He clears his throat. There is a very long pause, during which I hold my
breath. “Will you come skiing some time?”
I exhale. “I guess so?” Another beat of silence passes. “That was your big
question?” I ask, feeling like I’ve missed something.
His color deepens. “Well, no. I just…” His brow furrows, as if he’s trying to
explain some point of astronomy. I love his look of concentration. I’ve missed it.
Jake’s blue eyes lock on mine, and I see how our own orbits might finally collide.
This time, I will not send the moment winging back into space. Instead, I lean an almost
imperceptible degree in his direction.
And that’s all it takes.
Reaching up, Jake cups his hand to the side of my face. I’m still processing the
sweet touch of his fingers when he leans in farther, his lips brushing the sensitive corner
of my mouth. His eyes are tentative, seeking permission. My heart thuds with
expectation.
And then—finally—Jake kisses me for real. We come together the way a well-timed
drummer kicks into the chorus of a song—swiftly, and without hesitation.
We broke apart a moment later, eyeing each other while I try not to smile. “Can I

do that again?” he asks, his voice rough. “That was my real question.”
“Well, since you asked so nicely…”
Jake makes a low noise of approval, then draws me closer. I reach up for the
back of his neck, my fingers grazing that golden patch of skin I’ve always wanted to
touch. He kisses me again, his arm finding the velvet waist of my dress and encircling
me.
My heart flutters, but not from fear. Warm lips tease mine gently apart. And when
his tongue tangles with mine, I lose myself.
He tastes like champagne. Everything is wild and sweet, until the moment
Aurora’s voice rings out. “Ay, caramba!”
I feel an unwelcome rush of cool air between us as Jake retreats.
“I did say I was going into the bathroom, right? And not on a trip to Fiji?”
Neither of us says a word; we only look sheepishly at Aurora.
“Just to be clear, now I’m ducking into the bedroom for my coat, which only takes
a second.” She steps into the bedroom, and I hear the rustling of fabric. Then she peers
dramatically around the door frame. “Good listening! Now I’m going to the party. Will I
see you both there? Don’t answer that. We’ll speak later.”
Jake laughs. “Sorry, Aurora.”
“I’ve seen worse.” She departs, the door closing behind her.
And now I’m self-conscious. Rising, I decide to fiddle with the music playlist. “Do
you want to go to the party?”
“I’ll go. But I’m not great at parties. It’s all shouting over the music, drinking warm
beer out of a plastic cup.”

“Then let’s not.” My fingers shake as I adjust the volume. I go back over to the
sofa and sit down.
“So.” He clears his throat. “Where are you going for break?” As he asks, he takes
one of my hands in his, massaging my palm with his thumb.
His light touch is so distracting that I almost forget to answer. “Kansas City,” I
manage. “To meet my grandfather for the very first time.”
“Um, what?” He squeezes my hand.
So I tell Jake the embarrassing highlights of my weird story—that I hadn’t met
Frederick until this past summer.
“Wow. I’m sorry,” he says.
“Don’t be.”
“I guess I’m not that offended now that you wouldn’t introduce me. If the normal
waiting period is seventeen years.”
My laugh begins with an unladylike snort. Ah, well. “With me it’s just all soap
opera, all the time. Believe it or not, a year ago I was really a boring person.”
“I don’t see how.” He regards me with darting eyes. “You look beautiful tonight.”
“It’s Aurora’s dress,” I whisper.
But Jake doesn’t seem to care. He slips his arms around my waist. Scooting
closer, he slides his lips from my forehead, down my nose and onto my mouth. And we
begin again.

EXCERPT: He held the truck door for her, then circled around and climbed in. “Where to?” “Somewhere quiet. I’ve been surrounded by people all day.” “I agree. The house has been full of friends since I got Gram home. I managed to run most of them off early last night so she could sleep and again this afternoon to let Gram rest a few hours before the quilters swarmed in.” He drove through the Hamburger Hut, picked up malts and burgers, then crossed the bridge to the old part of town. The boards over the water were uneven, rattling her from side to side like a cheap, twirling carnival ride. Jillian raised her eyebrows but didn’t say a word. Where they were going didn’t matter. She was with the one she wanted to be with. She needed to stop worrying about lingering memories and just relax. He parked by a three-story building and climbed out. She waited, not sure what to do. The malts and burgers were still on the seat beside her. Surely they weren’t stopping here. This place was scary even in daylight. She didn’t plan on staying around to see how it looked in less than an hour. When he opened her door, he raised his arms to catch her. “Come with me.” He encouraged as if offering far more than a lift down from the high seat. Her legs were plenty long enough to take the step out, but she slid into his embrace. He lowered her to the ground. For moment they were so close they touched as they breathed. She thought he might lean in slightly and kiss her, but he simply brushed his cheek against her hair. “Trust me, Jillian, you’re going to like this restaurant.” He grabbed his raincoat from behind the seat, handed her the drinks and picked up their meal. Following him into the building, she was surprised to see how sound the old factory seemed to be. The ceiling was tall, over twenty feet. Decaying ropes still hung from pulleys, and worktables stood dusty, silently waiting for craftsmen to arrive. The windows were high, ribboning the building with natural light. Staying close, she whispered as though she might disturb ghosts, “What did they used to make in here?” “I’m not sure. I think parts of oil rigs were shipped in and assembled here. I don’t know much about it, but there’s an old Christmas tree over there in the corner.” He pointed to a six-foot structure that was formed from a mixture of valves, spools and fittings welded together. “They’re used at oil or gas well sites. I see them in the oil fields around. I’m not really sure why they call them Christmas trees. A roughneck would have to be drunk to mistake this jumble of metal for a tree.” She turned in a complete circle. “Nice restaurant.” “Oh, we’re not there yet.” He pointed to a staircase along one wall. “We’ve got rooftop seating.” Suddenly excited, she climbed ahead of him, her shoes tapping a rhythm in double time. At the top, she waited impatiently with a malt in each hand. He juggled the bag of burgers as he shoved the heavy door open. They stepped onto the rooftop with no one else around. She could see for miles in every direction. The trees, the fields. Oil rigs, scattered homes and barns, schools and churches. “It’s beautiful!” The sun’s low glow gave everything a golden light. He set the bag down and spread his raincoat out like a tablecloth on an air vent cover. “It’s not yet, but it will be.” He pulled up two empty five-gallon buckets to use as stools. She sat the malts down. “You’ve been to this restaurant before.” “Guilty. But I’ve never brought anyone here. Only you.” While he unwrapped his burger, she looked around, pointing out everything as if he was also seeing it for the first time. “Look how winding the creek is.” “I had no idea there were so many trees.” “Oh, look at those horses running.” She loved the way the evening clouds moved over the land, darkening the hues of the earth in shadow as they drifted. “It’s winter now, not near as pretty as it’ll be come spring.” He set his hamburger beside hers and came to join her near the roof’s edge. “I lease that flat land out to a farmer who plants cotton every spring. That brown dirt will look like a green carpet in a few months.” “I won’t be here in spring.” She let the wind catch her words as she turned away from him and the view. The black tar roof beneath her feet was all she saw now, but she stared hard, willing not one tear to fall. This time. This place she would miss. When she left, Jillian knew memories would be packed in her heart. A year from now, a decade, a lifetime, she’d still remember the beauty of this view in winter and wonder how it looked in spring.

Excerpt: BEYOND DANGER by Kat Martin!

Today I have a fantastic excerpt from Beyond Danger to share! Many thanks to Kat for providing us with an awesome snippet of her new book! Find buy links and more info below!

Beyond Danger
Pleasant Hill, Texas

Beau could hardly believe it.  His father was sixty years old!  The girl sitting across from him in a booth at the Pleasant Hill Café looked like a teenager.  A very pregnant teenager.
“Everything’s going to be okay, Missy,” Beau Reese said.  “You don’t have to worry about anything from now on.  I’ll make sure everything is taken care of from here on out.”
“He bought me presents,” the girl said, dabbing a Kleenex against the tears in her blue eyes.  “He told me how pretty I was, how much he liked being with me.  I thought he loved me.”
Fat chance of that, Beau thought.  His dad had never loved anyone but himself.  True, his father, a former Texas state senator, was still a handsome man, one who stayed in shape and looked twenty years younger.  Didn’t make the situation any better.
“How old are you, Missy?”
“Nineteen.”
At least she was over the age of consent.  That was something, not much.
Beau shoved a hand through his wavy black hair and took a steadying breath.  He thought of the DNA test folded up and tucked into the pocket of his shirt.  He had always wanted a baby brother or sister.  Now at the age of thirty five, he was finally going to have one.
Beau felt a surge of protectiveness toward the young woman carrying his father’s child.
He looked over to where she sat hunched over next to her mother on the opposite side of the pink vinyl booth.  “Everybody makes mistakes, Missy.  You picked the wrong guy, that’s all.  Doesn’t mean you won’t have a great kid.”
For the first time since he’d arrived, Missy managed a tentative smile.  “Thank you for saying that.”
Beau returned the smile.  “I’m going to have a baby sister.  I promise she won’t have to worry about a thing from the day she’s born into this world.”  Hell, he was worth more than half a billion dollars.  He would see the child had everything she ever wanted.
When Missy’s lips trembled, her mother scooted out of the booth.  “I think she’s had enough for today.  This is all very hard on her and I don’t want her getting overly tired.”  Josie reached for her daughter’s hand.  “Let’s go home, honey.  You’ll feel better after a nap.”
Beau got up, too, leaned over and brushed a kiss on Missy’s cheek.  “You both have my number.  If you need anything, call me.  Okay?”
Missy swallowed.  “Okay.”
“Thank you, Beau,” Josie said.  “I should have called you sooner.  I should have known you’d help us.”
“I’ll have my assistant send you a check right away.  You’ll have money to take care of expenses and buy the things you need.  After that, I’ll have a draft sent to Missy every month.”
Josie’s eyes teared up.  “I didn’t know how I was going to manage the bills all by myself.  Thank you again, Beau.”
He just nodded.  “Keep me up to date on her condition.”
“I will,” Josie said.
Beau watched the women head for the door, the bell ringing as Josie shoved it open and she and Missy walked out of the café.
Leaving money on the table for his coffee, he followed the women out the door, his temper slowing climbing toward the boiling point, as it had been after he’d first received Josie’s call.
His father should be the one handling Missy’s pregnancy.  He’d had months to step up and do the right thing.  Beau figured he never would.
As he crossed the sidewalk and opened the door of his dark blue Ferrari, his temper cranked up another notch.  By the time the car was roaring along the road to his father’s house, his fury was simmering, bubbling just below the surface.
Unconsciously his foot pressed harder on the gas, urging the car down the two-lane road at well over eighty miles an hour.  With too many tickets in Howler County already, he forced himself to slow down.
Making the turn into Country Club Estates, he jammed on the brakes and the car slid to a stop in front of the house.  The white, two-story home he’d been raised in oozed Southern charm, the row of columns out front mimicking an old-style plantation.
Climbing out of the Ferrari, one of his favorite vehicles, he pounded up the front steps and crossed the porch.  The housekeeper had Mondays and Tuesdays off so he used his key to let himself into the entry.
On this chilly, end-of-January day, the ceiling fans, usually rotating throughout the five-thousand square-foot residence, hadn’t been turned on, leaving the interior strangely silent, the air oddly dense.  The ticking of the ornate grandfather clock in the living room seemed louder than it usually did.
“Dad!  It’s Beau!  Where are you?”  When he didn’t get an answer, he strode down the hall toward the study.  He had phoned his father on the way over.  Though he’d done his best to keep the anger out of his voice, he wasn’t sure he had succeeded.   Maybe his father had left to avoid him.
“Dad!”  Still no answer.  Beau continued down the hall, his footsteps echoing in the quiet.  As he reached the study, he noticed the door standing slightly ajar.  Steeling himself for the confrontation ahead, he clamped down on his temper, rapped firmly, then shoved the door open.
His father wasn’t sitting at the big rosewood desk or in his favorite overstuffed chair next to the fireplace.  Beau started to turn away when an odd gurgling sound sent the hairs up on the back of his neck.
“Dad!”  At the opposite end of the desk, Beau spotted a prone figure lying on the floor in a spreading pool of blood.  “Dad!”  His father’s eyes were closed, his face as gray as ash.  The handle of a letter opener protruded from the middle of his chest.
Beau raced to his father’s side.  “Dad!”  Blood oozed from the wound in his chest and streamed onto the hardwood floor.  He had to stop the bleeding and he had to do it now!
He hesitated, praying he wouldn’t make it worse, then with no other option, grabbed the handle of the letter opener, jerked it out, gripped the front of his dad’s white shirt and ripped it open.
“Oh, my God!  What are you--”
Beau glanced up.  “Call 9-1-1!  Hurry, he’s been stabbed!  Hurry!”
The woman, a shapely brunette named Cassidy Jones, his father’s recently hired personal assistant, didn’t pause, just pulled her cell out of her pocket and hurriedly punched in the number.  He heard her rattle off the address, give the dispatcher the name of the victim and said he had been stabbed.
Beau’s hand shook as he checked for a pulse, found none.  The wound was catastrophic, a stab wound straight to the heart.  No way could his father survive it.
Cassidy ended the call, ran over and knelt on the floor beside him.
“Here, use this to seal the hole.”  She seemed amazingly in control as she handed him a credit card then ran to the wet bar and grabbed a towel, folded it into a pad, rushed back and handed it over.  Beau pressed the towel over the credit card on top of the hole, all the while knowing his father was already dead or within moments of dying.
He checked again for a pulse.  Shook his head, feeling an unexpected rush of grief.  “His heart isn’t beating.  Whoever stabbed him knew exactly where to bury the blade.”  And compressions would only make it worse.
Cassidy reached down to check for herself, pressing her fingers in exactly the right spot on the side of his father’s neck.  She had to know it was hopeless, just as he did, must have known Stewart Reese was dead.
“I’m sorry,” she said.
Beau studied his father’s face.  Pain had turned his usually handsome features haggard and slack, nothing like the athletic older man who kept himself so fit and trim.
Sorrow slid through him, making his chest clamp down.  Or maybe it was sadness for the kind of man his father was, the kind who had wound up the victim of a killer.
“Just hold on,” Cassidy said to him.  “The ambulance should be here any minute.”
His mind went blank until the sound of a siren sliced into his conscious.  Cassidy hurried off to let the EMTs into the house and a few moments later they appeared in the study.
“You need to give us some room, Mr. Reese,” one of them said gently, a skinny kid who looked like he knew what he was doing.
Beau backed away and Cassidy followed.  He felt her eyes on him, assessing him with speculation--or was it suspicion?
It didn’t take long for the EMTs to have his father loaded onto a gurney and rolling down the hall, back outside to the ambulance.  Beau strode along behind them, Cassidy trailing in his wake.
It occurred to him that she could be the killer.  But somehow the timing seemed wrong and her reaction seemed genuine.  The thought slid away.
As he climbed into the ambulance and sat down beside his dad, he flicked a last glance at the house.  If Cassidy Jones hadn’t done it, who had?  Had the killer still been inside when Beau arrived?  How had he escaped?  What was his motive?
The ambulance roared down the road, sirens wailing, blowing through intersections, weaving in and out between cars, careening around corners.  All the way to the hospital Beau held his father’s hand.  It was the closest he had ever felt to his dad.
The ambulance turned again and Pleasant Hill Memorial loomed ahead.  The vehicle slammed to a stop in front of the emergency entrance and the back doors banged open.
After what seemed an eternity but was only a very few minutes, Beau’s father, Stewart Beaumont Reese, was pronounced Dead On Arrival.
Beau’s throat closed up.  There were times as a boy he had wished his father dead, but that had been years ago.
Now his dad was gone and Beau wanted answers.  He vowed whatever it took, for no matter how long, he wouldn’t stop until he found the man who had murdered his father.

Beyond Danger is Beau’s story.  Mega-rich, black-haired, and blue-eyed, Beau is gorgeous to look at, and flashy.  He was an amateur race car driver, sort of a Texas Paul Newman, before he left the racing circuit.  Beau loves fast cars and fast women.
He is also wanted for murder.
That’s where private investigator, Cassidy Jones, comes in.  She’s smart and she’s no pushover, exactly the woman for Beau.  Best of all, she’s determined to prove his innocence.

New York Times bestselling author Kat Martin brings page-turning suspense to a tale of secrets and passions turned deadly . . .

Texas mogul Beau Reese is furious. All six feet three obscenely wealthy, good-looking inches of him. His sixty-year-old father, Stewart, a former state senator no less, has impregnated a teenager. Barely able to contain his anger, Beau is in for another surprise. It appears that Stewart has moved an entirely different woman into the house . . .

Beau assumes that stunning Cassidy Jones is his father’s mistress. At least she’s of age. But those concerns take a sudden backseat when he finds Stewart in a pool of blood on the floor of his study—and Cassidy walks in to find Beau with his hand on the murder weapon.

The shocks just keep coming. Someone was following Stewart, and Cassidy is the detective hired to find out who and why. Now she’ll have to find his killer instead. Her gut tells her it wasn’t Beau. And Beau’s instincts tell him it wasn’t Cassidy. Determined to track down the truth, they form an uneasy alliance—one that will bring them closer to each other—closer to danger and beyond . . .

Interview: KAT MARTIN! Author of BEYOND DANGER

Today we have a Q&A with author Kat Martin! Be sure to check out the book info and buy links under the interview!

Your perfect writing conditions - do you like complete quiet, music playing, etc?I’m a complete quiet person.  I want to be completely in the scene I’m writing.  Distractions make that harder to do.
What are you reading right now?Just finished the new Jack Reacher novel.  Currently reading Cynthia Eden’s Shattered.
Do you have writing goals (so many words per day/per week), or do you just write whenever inspiration strikes?
I try to write 100 finished pages a month.  A book in five months, a month to review, rewrite or make changes.  I am usually on schedule as much as possible.  If you want to meet your deadlines, you can’t just write “when inspiration strikes.”
If you could spend time with one of your characters from this book, who would it be?
Definitely Beau Reese!  Love to go for a ride with him in his amazing Lamborghini.  But Cassidy, a lady detective, would be great fun to talk to.  Maybe get some new plot ideas…
Any upcoming plans for new books?
Up next for me is Beyond Control.  That’s the final book in my Texas Trilogy, Josh Cain’s story.  Josh is Lincoln Cain’s brother from Beyond Reason.  Josh is former military, a guy who wants to make his Texas ranch a success and find some peace and quiet.   Unfortunately, when Victoria Bradford shows up with her four year old daughter trouble is what he finds instead.
What do you love the most about the writing/publishing process?
One of the best parts is going through the book after you have reached The End.  That’s when you get to look at the novel as a reader instead of a writer and enjoy all your hard work.  And hopefully discover you like it!
What do you dislike the most about the writing/publishing process?
I don’t like writing backstory.  I am a go-forward person.  I like to see/figure out what’s going to happen next.  I hate the copyediting portion of the process.  I always feel I have made the book the very best I could make it.  I don’t much like changing it after I am finished.
