Review: SECRET TO DATING YOUR BEST FRIEND'S SISTER by Meghan Quinn!

My Review: Back at the reviewing game after a holiday hiatus, and it started off with a bang!! Long time readers of my reviews will know how much I love the whole best friend's sibling trope,  so of course I had to get my hands on this book. And thank goodness I did, because this was the perfect way to start 2019 off with a bang!

I have to applaud Meghan Quinn for taking a popular romance subgenre, and creating something classic yet totally unique. This was just so positively cute,  and I have to be honest.. I'm already considering a reread because I just loved it so much.

Cover Lovin': What a cutie!

Recommendation: All on its own.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! So adorably cute and fun!!!

How do you date your best friend's sister? Easy. Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer. Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend's sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move. Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right? It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of you life to fall madly in love with you. At least--that's what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She's smart--really smart--and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I've tried slinging her way. She's not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she's not giving in that easy... ADD TO GOODREADS

Review: FIGHTING FOR WHAT'S HIS by Laura Kaye!

My Review: I don't know if this will really be a review or just me fumbling with my words while I try to tell you how much I loved this. I loved Billy and Shayna, both as individuals and as a couple. And their whole relationship was just so emotional - there was guilt, intense attraction, sexual tension, thinking they were better alone, and then realizing they are even stronger together. I was addicted to this story, guys.

Laura Kaye writes some seriously amazing stories, and Fighting for What's His is definitely no exception. She has such an engaging writing style, and she writes characters that I not only fall in love with, but miss when I finish the book. Laura Kaye really knows how to ratchet up the tension, making this a slow burn romance that will leave readers desperate for more.

Cover Lovin': Look at those abs!

Recommendation: Book 2, but can be read on its own.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!!! Love it, love it, love it!

What has a sexy, bad-ass veteran hero… A feisty and independent heroine who won’t hesitate to stand up for herself… A forbidden, best friend’s younger sister conflict… And a forced-proximity roommates-to-lovers situation that creates all kinds of sexual tension?

FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS—the second standalone title in New York Times bestselling author Laura Kaye’s Warrior Fight Club series! FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS is now available! Grab your copy and join the Warrior Fight Club world today!

About FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS (Warrior Fight Club #2, 9/7/18):

This fight club has one rule: you must be a veteran…

Resisting her only makes him want her more...

Private investigator Billy Parrish is good at three things—fighting, investigating, and sex. MMA training with the other vets in the Warrior Fight Club keeps his war-borne demons at bay—mostly, and one night stands ensure no one gets too close. But then his best friend from the Army Rangers calls in a favor.

Shayna Curtis is new to town, fresh out of grad school, and full of hope for the future. With a new job starting in a month, she’s grateful when her brother arranges a place for her to stay while she apartment hunts. But she never expected her roommate to be so brooding. Or so sexy.

Billy can’t wait for Shay to leave—because the longer she’s there, the more he wants her in his bed. To stay. He can’t have her—that much he knows. But when fight club stops taking off the edge, Billy lets down his guard…and starts fighting for what’s his.

“The always amazing Kaye is kicking off a terrific new contemporary romance series that centers around a wounded warrior’s fight club. Kaye does a beautiful job exploring the fallout from war and PTSD as various characters struggle to cope in their own ways. The love story between Noah Cortez and his childhood friend Kristina Moore is both compelling and touching, for the obstacles in their way loom large. A truly memorable read!” ~ RT Book Reviews

Review: DROPPING IN by Carrie Quest

Today, we have the blog tour for Carrie Quest’s DROPPING IN! Check it—and the free prequel—out today and grab your copy!

My Review: A book involving a wanna-be writer falling for her best friend's older brother? I'm sold! So we started off right, and it just got better from there. I was grinning like a loon as soon as Natalie caught Ben getting ready to... ahem, shower, and it just got better from there. I loved all the little touches - the cute little surprises they would leave each other, the fun jokes.. just the general sense of humor of this novel. And I appreciated how well the author seamlessly moved from the fun to the dramatic.

I didn't want to put this down. It was a great read, and I'd highly recommend it for those who love the best-friends-older-brother/little-sister's-best-friend romance trope. And heck, I recommend it to contemporary romance lovers in general! It was fun to watch these two fall in love, and I can't wait to see what else this author comes up with. And I want to see Natalie's novel in real life!

Cover Lovin': Those abs! Someone pass me a fan!

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! A great read. I loved Ben, and these two deserve their perfect happily ever after!

Happy Reading!

Title: Dropping In

Series: A Snow-Crossed Lovers Novel

Release Date: February 8th

About Dropping In:

Natalie Berensen has one short summer to ace her writing class and convince her parents she’s not a hopeless screw-up. No more changing her major once a month, taking time off to travel, or random friends-with-benefits. She doesn’t have time for distractions or hook-ups, not even if her longtime crush is in town for the summer and living in her basement. Who cares if he’s a snowboarding god with six pack abs and a hashtag devoted to his apparently magical penis? She’s not interested. Until she is. Ben Easton’s focus and self-discipline is legendary. He’s built a career as a professional snowboarder by training harder than anyone else on the mountain and steering clear of anything that doesn’t take him one step closer to his goal: Olympic gold. Then his best friend crashes in the half-pipe and Ben drops everything to take care of him. No more training. No more competitions. No more snowboarding. It’s over. He’s back in Boulder to help with Adam’s rehab, not fool around with his little sister’s best friend, no matter how much he loves her laugh or the way her ass looks when she walks up the stairs. There’s no way in hell he’s going anywhere near Natalie. Until he does. Contains: a grumpy guard cat with a taste for blood, discussions of Ents as phallic symbols, and plenty of sexy times.

Title: Bailing Out

Series: A Snow-Crossed Lovers Novella

About Bailing Out:

Gabriel Power came to Sochi with two goals: win a medal and track down his ex-girlfriend so he can finally explain the truth about the scandal that came between them. Once that’s done, he’s going to disappear. Snowboarding’s bad boy is tired of the phony photo ops set up by his media mogul father. Getting hounded by reporters and pretending to date supermodels while running errands for Power News cost him the only girl he’s ever loved, and now it’s time to walk away. Quitting his father will be easy. Bailing on snowboarding will be slightly harder. Getting Belle to forgive him may be impossible, but he has to try. Isabelle Garland’s Olympic dream died the night a drunk driver plowed into her car and crushed her leg. Sochi was supposed to be her moment of glory, but instead she’s limping around the Village trying to dodge the snowboarder who broke her heart and avoid the interviews her pushy sister-slash-manager insists are vital for building her brand. Belle doesn’t want a brand, she wants a life. Preferably one far away from the rude reporters who keep trying to get America’s Skating Sweetheart to cry on camera by asking how it feels when your entire life is snatched away in an instant. (Spoiler: it feels like s***. Also, she’s more snark than sweet these days.) When she runs into Gabe in the basement of her hotel, Belle’s first instinct is to flee. Too bad they’re trapped in a freezing storage room together with no way out and only their chemistry to keep them warm…

Title: Wiping Out

Series: A Snow-Crossed Lovers Novel

Release Date: March 8th

About Wiping Out:

Piper Easton is a fixer. As a teenager she took over running the house when her mom got sick, and when her snowboarder brother was injured, she found the top knee guru in town and finagled a same-day appointment. She’s got an exclusive internship lined up in Europe and she’ll be leaving as soon as she watches her brother Ben win a gold medal. She just has to clean up one last mess: the way her stupid heart jumps whenever her ex-boyfriend appears. She and Adam are friends now, that’s it. That’s all they can ever be. But maybe a few benefits aren’t out of the question. Just until their trip to the Olympics finishes and they both go their separate ways. Surely the problem will be fixed by then. Adam Westlake had two true loves: snowboarding and Piper Easton. He lost them both and now he’s broken. The scars from where they cut his skull open are no longer visible, but the traumatic brain injury means it isn’t safe for him to ride again and he hasn’t spoken to Piper in eighteen months. Not since he got out of the hospital and fled Colorado, terrified he wouldn’t be able to resist strapping on his board when the snow started falling. He’s been chasing summer around the world ever since, until a lucrative offer to report on the Olympics brings him home to face all the temptations he left behind. He might be able to summon the willpower to stay off the mountain, but Piper? She’s irresistible. Contains: sex as an Olympic sport, dirty dancing while wearing eye goggles, ninety-nine penis balloons, and a blowjob rudely interrupted by a devil in feline form.

Release Day: STRIPPING HER DEFENSES by Amanda Adams!

Today we have the release day blitz for Stripping Her Defenses by Amanda Adams! Check it out and grab your copy today!

My Review: Two romance tropes I love in one book! The sibling's best friend/best friends sibling storyline, AND the second chance romance. And I do like the whole "breaking up with you for your own good" thing, even though if that happened to me in real life, I'd be so angry. Daniel didn't even get to the breaking up point - he pushed her away after one kiss. Because he knew she was something amazing and special, and quite possibly the one. Excuse me while I swoon, because man oh man, that is romantic as heck.

This was a very good read. I didn't want to put it down. I will admit to being annoyed in the beginning because we get hints of the secrets Daniel is dealing with, but nothing for sure and concrete. I wanted to know what was going on! But I got so into the plot that pretty soon, the book felt seamless. I can't wait for more!

Cover Lovin': This cover looks sweeter than the book itself. Considering some of the subject matter, I expected a darker cover.

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! So good - I couldn't put it down!

Happy Reading!

Author: Amanda Adams

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Stripping Her Defenses:

Regret is a strange thing…sometimes it drops a man to his knees. But sometimes it’s more like a slow drip poison. I’ve only ever regretted two things in my life. Walking away from her was one of them... Duty? Honor? Love? After ten years in the military, they all mean nothing to Daniel, nothing but pain. He's home now, but war—and the secrets that followed him—hold him in an unrelenting grip. It’s dangerous to fall in love, dangerous to believe the past will stay buried where it can’t hurt the people around him, where it can’t hurt her. But one look at Chloe and he remembers a time when all he worried about was getting his hands on her. Does he deserve a second chance? Hell no. But he's got a new mission now: Strip every single one of Chloe's defenses and win back her heart. He'll use any means necessary to seduce her. Exclusive Excerpt:

“Chloe, you’re showing him a house. This is all business. Stop acting like this is some kind of date,” I mutter to myself, attempting to dial down the intensity and back away from the ledge. Maybe if I say it out loud enough times, I’ll believe it. Maybe, if I can forget the heat of that kiss, I’ll stop wanting what I can’t have. And Daniel definitely ranks high on my list of things I can’t have. I feel dangerously close to falling and giving in to childhood impulses. I’m an adult now. I’d been a stupid nineteen-year-old kid when I made that pass at Daniel. I’d been a stupid kid who thought true love conquered all. And I knew I loved him and that he would love me. I’d watched all the right movies and read all the right books. The beautiful young princess always won the prince in the end, and then they lived happily-ever-after. That was the big lie. In real life, the prince turned her down flat and disappeared on the other side of the world, her mom got sick, died of cancer, and left the princess with a pile of bills and a life insurance policy that didn’t even come close to covering the costs of settling the estate. In real life, the princess had to work three minimum-wage jobs to pay for a realtor’s license and had hustled like the devil every day since. No, I’m not that naĂŻve little girl anymore. I’d seen too much of life to go back to that kind of thinking. Which meant I had to get over the nervous anticipation of seeing Daniel again. Today would be pure business and I am a confident, independent woman now. That kiss meant nothing to me, and neither did his rejection. Nope. Not a thing. I can act like it never happened. I’d kissed plenty of men since then. Loads. At least…I had to think hard for a minute…at least three. That was more than enough to know that Daniel isn’t the only guy on the planet. There are plenty of other… massive shoulders supporting muscular necks that smell of wonderful cologne… in the sea; I just haven’t reeled in the right one. But I will. I’m not afraid to love again and I don’t regret a moment of time spent with my mother before she passed. I cherish my memories, grateful that I had love in my life at all. And when I do meet someone new, I will forget all about my childhood crush on Daniel. I purse my lips, calm my breathing and focus on a circle of fog forming on the glass window. I am so over my best friend’s older brother. Over. Done. Not even a little nervous to see him again. He has to be old and fat and ugly now. Yep. Losing his hair, scarred up from the war like in one of those sci-fi movies. Grotesque and completely unattractive. Has. To. Be. I turn to make one last circle around the house, making sure everything is in place for the showing before Mr. Ugly arrives. Most of the owners’ furniture is in storage. A couple of nice magazines decorate the coffee table. I brought in flowers after the painters finished changing the pale blue and green walls to neutral beige that I knew would help the place sell. All the family photos are hidden in a drawer upstairs and a table setting straight out of “Realtors R Us” highlights the dining room. Martha Stewart herself would be proud of the crystal and the silver and the perfectly folded napkins in elegant rings next to the impossibly white china. I have no doubt he will notice none of it or tell it to go find some candleholder its own age. When Sara told me that Daniel was back in town, and he wanted to buy a house, it felt like fate. It would be an opportunity to prove that I had grown up and moved on, that he meant nothing more to me than what I would feel for any childhood friend, that I could be completely immune to his charm. With Daniel, this is an opportunity to feel like I am the one in charge for the first time in our lives. I am ready for that. More than I’d like to admit. I served my time being the tag-along, annoying younger sibling’s best friend. No more. I start to straighten the floral arrangement on the dining room table for the hundredth time but stop my obsessive craziness and smack a daisy in frustration. “I doubt he cares about you stupid flowers,” I tell them, sighing at my ridiculous behavior. And the poor daisy lilts over. I think I broke its poor neck—or its heart—because I yelled at it. As I attempt to reconcile with the wronged and innocent flower I hear the deep rumble of an engine approaching outside. Marching to the front door, I open it to greet him--as I do all of my clients—and watch with my heart in my throat as Daniel rides up on his motorcycle. After parking it, he takes off his helmet, his dark hair gleams in the bright, Texas sunshine. A leather jacket hugs his muscular arms and shoulders while tight denim shows that nothing about him has diminished since I’d last seen him. In fact, I realize just how much of a boy he’d been at twenty-two. Now he is all man, from the slight lines at the corners of his mouth to the way he moves. Everything about him screams confident, virile male in his prime. Damn it. So much Mr. Ugly. This indifference thing might be harder than I thought.         About the Author: Amanda Adams writes super-sexy, new adult and contemporary romance.
