Review: CONTROL by K. Bromberg!

My Review: There's just something so classic about the woman who lives her life on the fringe, doing things her own way, falling in love with a controlled, straight laced man. And that's essentially what we get here. A sweet, and fun, story about opposites attracting and coming together.

I'm not very familiar with this series by K. Bromberg. I do love her writing, and she's always been consistently awesome,  every book I've read by her. Control is no different. With this book, we have a well written story, characters I fell in love with, and it's all wrapped up in a perfect little one-sitting-read package. Definitely worth your time!!

Cover Lovin': 1001 Dark Nights classic.

Recommendation: Can be read as a stand alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! So worth a read!

About K Bromberg: New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love. She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California. On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled).

EXCERPT: Men are on women. Women are on women. Grunts and groans fill the air. There is cheering from the sidelines as bystanders watch them writhe and buck and try to get the other off them. “It’s like a big orgy in here,” I say to the woman standing beside me. I don’t know her, but she’s standing like we are, back against the gym wall, eyes glued to the men and women fighting for positioning—moving, bucking, defending—on the mats where they’re lying. She emits a nervous laugh and looks to me. Prim and proper, she resembles a Stepford wife, and all I can think is that her ladies’ club decided to do this together and she’s the only one who decided to show up. At least I’m not the only one nervous about being here. There could be worse things I guess…like actually needing to use the skills I’m supposed to learn here in Sunnyville Self Defense Class to protect myself. A group at the far side of the gym erupts in applause, and I stand on my tiptoes to see a woman standing with her foot on the instructor’s throat while he’s lying on the mat. His red SSDC T-shirt matches everyone else standing around trying to look official with a whistle and gym pants on. “Exactly,” a deep rumble of a voice on the other side of me says. I glance over and whoa…all my attention shifts from the grunts and groans on the floor to how I wouldn’t mind grunting and groaning with the man on his cell beside me. Our gazes meet for the briefest of seconds—chocolate-brown eyes giving me a passing glance and a curt smile before turning back to whoever is on the phone while watching the action beyond. Taking my time and trying not to pay attention to HottieMcTotty, I scan the gym. Basic blue gymnastic mats cover the majority of the hardwood floors, basketball hoops hang from the lofty ceiling but have been drawn up, and championship banners hang, partially hiding the painted mural of the Sunnyville High School mascot on the wall at the far end. But no matter how hard I try to not look back at him, that is where my attention lands. He’s a good six inches taller than I am, has dark hair, and his body beneath his Under Armour workout shirt hints at how ridiculously fit he is. His bicep closest to me stretches the fabric and is covered in a dizzying tattooed array of colors and images I can’t openly look at to decipher. You can only do so much with a sideways stare. But his voice. It’s like liquid sex with a rasp and a rumble and a whole earth-shattering orgasm in between. Hello to you, Mister A-Little-Rugged-And-Whole-Lot-Sexy. I listen to him talk. Not stalkerish-like…well, maybe stalkerish-like, but damn if the background of grunting and groaning only serves to enhance the things my mind is dreaming up. And then it hits me. He’s not here as an instructor—no red SSDC shirt on. So that means he’s here as a boyfriend or a husband and therefore completely off limits. Damn it. If he were an instructor, I’d make sure to be in his group so he could grind on me for a bit…and I’m talking the pelvis kind of grind…if I’m being truthful.

Review: TEMPTING BROOKE by Kristen Proby!

My Review: This one is going to be tough for me to review. There were parts that were super awesome - seeing some of my old favorites from the Big Sky series, how Kristen Proby brought so many emotions from Brody's childhood, and the clients Brooke serves. But then.. there were the parts I didn't like so much. It just felt like too much was being shoved into too tiny of a space. The pacing felt off because so many things had to be accomplished in so short a time. The emotional connection between Brooke and Brody felt stretched and forced. I know this author is an amazing writer. I have a row of her books on my keeper shelf, even. But I think her talent lies more in creating complex plots, and deep emotions... neither of which work for such a short novella.

Cover Lovin': 1001 Dark Nights classic.

Recommendation: All 1001 Dark Nights books can be read as a stand alones.

Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (3.5/5)! Good, but not her best. It felt lacking compared to her usual, amazing style.

About TEMPTING BROOKE:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby comes a new story in her Big Sky series…

Brooke’s Blooms has taken Cunningham Falls by surprise. The beautiful, innovative flower shop is trendy, with not only gorgeous flower arrangements, but also fun gifts for any occasion. This store is Brooke Henderson’s deepest joy, and it means everything to her, which shows in how completely she and her little shop have been embraced by the small community of Cunningham Falls.

So, when her landlord dies and Brody Chabot saunters through her door, announcing that the building has been sold, and will soon be demolished, Brooke knows that she’s in for the fight of her life. But she hasn’t gotten this far by sitting back and quietly doing what she’s told. Hustle is Brooke’s middle name, and she has no intention of losing this fight, no matter how tempting Brody’s smile — and body — is.

EXCERPT: The bell dings, and I reach for my small handbag and answer the door. Brody’s eyes start at my face and slowly meander down my body to my sandal-covered feet, and if I’m not mistaken, his jaw clenches. Just friends, Brooke. “Hey.” I can’t help but take my own perusal of the man standing before me. Jesus in a basket, he fills out a suit nicely. His shoulders are broad, and his arms muscular. Yes, this does things to me. “Can I come in?” he asks with a small smile on his lips. “Of course.” I step back and he walks inside my small house. “This is nice,” he says, but his eyes are still on me. “Thanks. I’ve been here for a couple of years.” I glance around, wondering if Brody and I have the same tastes, and then I glance back to him and bust out laughing. “What?” he asks. “Turn around.” He complies, and I reach up to pull the tag that’s poked out of the neck of his jacket. His hair is soft against the back of my fingers, and I can’t help but wonder what it would feel like as I fist it while he does amazing, sexy things to me. I take a deep breath and hand it to him with a laugh. “Wear it every day, my ass.” He tucks the tag in his pocket. “I didn’t bring a suit to Montana. I had to improvise.” He bought it just for me. And according to the tag, it wasn’t cheap. Now I feel bad. I shouldn’t have pushed the issue. He spent a bunch of money that he didn’t need to, all because I gave him a hard time. “I thought we could eat at Ciao tonight,” he says as he leads me out of the house to his rented convertible. The sun broke out a couple of hours ago, and it’s the perfect temperature now. But I just did my hair. I think about asking him to put the top up, and then decide, fuck it. I reach into my handbag and pull out a hair tie, twist my hair on top of my head, and grin as I sit in the fun car. “I could have put the top up.” “And that would have been a waste on a day like today,” I reply smoothly and have to physically restrain myself from reaching over to brush my fingertips through that soft hair at the nape of his neck. We drive through town in silence. Rather than park in front of the restaurant, he drives past, and I frown over at him. “Having second thoughts?” “No.” He sends me a smile. “Before we go in, I’d like to know why you got so quiet.” I bite my lip and look out my window, then turn to him and say, “Did you buy that suit just for me?” “Seems I do a lot of things for you lately,” he replies with a grin. “It’s not a big deal, Brooke.” “I’m sorry,” I reply. “I was just goofing around this afternoon. I didn’t mean for you to have to do all of this.” “All of what?” “Buy that gorgeous suit, take me to dinner. I feel like I hijacked your day, and I feel bad.” He pulls over, whips his seatbelt off, and turns to me. “Look at me.” I comply. He drags his knuckle down my cheek again, and that’s all it takes to set my body on high alert.

Review & Excerpt: STRONG by Kylie Scott!

My Review: I'm sure I'm not the first to say that man, I super hated Martha throughout the series. But we were supposed to! So I was nervous when I heard she was getting her own story. I know Kylie Scott can make me love anything though, so I was more than ready to see how she could pull this off... and she did! Plus, I really wanted to see Sam get a happy ending, he deserved this.

So, I'm going to consider this a slow burn romance, but really only on Sam's part. He knew a decade ago that Martha was what he wanted, and man, was he patient. And there's just something so hot about a man who knows what he wants, is willing to wait until the right moment to make his move, and has a plan in place. And plan, indeed! Not that Martha was going to let herself be managed. But these two played well off each other. Martha needed someone to push back, and Sam knows to pick his battles.

Cover Lovin': 1001 Dark Nights Classic

Recommendation: Can be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend the series because it is one of my all-time favorites!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! I love a redemption story, and a slow burn - best of both worlds.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series… When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare. As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line. Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

EXCERPT
“Ooh, busted,” said Lizzy. “The bodyguard caught you looking.” “Shut it.” I inched my chin up a bit, trying not to frown because frowning gave you lines. “Sam and I have known each other for years and nothing has ever happened. You’re completely wrong about this.” “Am I?” “Yes, there’s nothing between us.” “So that’s why you were staring at him?” I chose not to answer that. “And you know he prefers to be called executive protection officer instead of bodyguard.” At this, Lizzy burst out giggling, a malicious glee in her eyes. No wonder I liked my sister-in-law these days. Ben shot us both an irritated glance. We both ignored it. Of course, I’d known Sam would probably be here. Rock stars going out in public could be a delicate thing. People had a tendency to get overexcited. And while one person wanting an autograph wasn’t a problem, twenty or thirty of them suddenly swarming definitely could be. Having once been part of the entourage, I’d seen it happen to Ben and his fellow Stage Dive band members enough times to be wary. And you couldn’t get by with ordinary security. Rock stars needed protection from their over-zealous fans, but on the other hand they didn’t want the fans roughed up or hurt in any way. It required a delicate balance: control, experience, and a whole gamut of scary physical skills. Hence Sam. Still, Portland seemed generally less crazy than the good old days back in LA. All of the guys seemed calmer and more settled away from the constant craziness of the party scene. Not to mention the effect of all of the wives/partners and various offspring. The biggest rock band in the world had officially been domesticated. It was kind of cute. Or sad. I don’t know. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stir you,” she lied. “What do you think of your brother’s new musical bromance?” On the small stage set up in the corner of the room, a young man wailed his heart out while playing an acoustic guitar. Much angst about a girl who only called him after midnight. Trust a rockster to turn a simple booty call into a heartbreaking ballad. The song was damn good though. He had talent. If only I hadn’t had my fill of the type when I was younger. The kid looked to be in his early to mid-twenties. Lanky with lots of tattoos. Your typical rock ’n roll Prince Charming. Gag. These days my type ran more toward…actually, what I needed or wanted in a male was a total mystery. And my gaze did not stray back to Sam. That did not happen.         Kylie is a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author.       “I don’t believe this,” I bitched. “My Valentino boots are actually sticking to the floor. That’s how gross this place is.” Lizzy just smiled. “Told you to dress casual.” “I am.” The smile widened. “Jeans and a tee is casual.” “A tee? It’s velvet, Martha.” She held a bottle of beer up to her lips, taking a sip. “I said we were going to a dive bar. You have only yourself to blame for the fashion faux pas.” “But velvet is in!” “Would you two quit talking? I’m trying to listen,” said my brother, Ben. The big hairy idiot was slouched back in his chair, bopping his head in time to the music. Lizzy shuffled closer all conspiratorial-like. “I know why you’re all dressed up.” I said nothing. There was nothing to be said. Next her gaze went to the man standing at the end of the bar across from us. No, no, I would not turn my head. I would not fall prey to her bullshit. After all, I’d managed to successfully avoid him for the forty-eight or so hours since my not so triumphant surprise return to the West Coast. Even with us both being in the same house. A very big sprawling house, but still. On the other hand, it should probably be mentioned that he looked awfully good tonight in jeans and a white T-shirt with a leather jacket. Samuel Rhodes, otherwise known as Sam. Not a pretty man with his harsh features and bull-like neck, but something about him appealed to me. As always, his head was shaved and his body was built and my idiot fingers itched to explore. Okay. So I guess at some point I must have turned my head. And shit, he caught me looking. The corner of his lips rose just a little, just enough to mess with me, before he returned to doing his job by casually surveying the packed room. My heart did not speed up due to anything done by him. Clearly, I hadn’t totally caught my breath from when we’d walked in half an hour ago or something. That was all. Interesting to note, he did none of the checking me out typical of a heterosexual male who might have been into me. In fact, he didn’t really give me any signals at all. Ever.               Kylie is a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author. With a day job as the secretary to one of New York’s most powerful men, Hudson Pierce, I have to keep my double life quiet. As long as I do, it’s not a problem. Enter: Nathan Sinclair. Tall, dark and handsome doesn’t come close to describing how hot he is. And that’s with his clothes on.

THE BED MATE: A Room Mate Novella by Kendall Ryan I might be a typical guy, but these last few years, my love life’s been anything but. From crazy ex-girlfriends to one-night stands who are stage-five clingers, my relationships go bad faster than the milk in your fridge. The only constant has been my best friend Maggie.

Fresh off a bad breakup of her own, I invite Maggie to my guys’ skiing weekend knowing she needs an escape from reality. But then something funny starts to happen. I start noticing things about her that I never noticed before. But am I ready to screw up the best relationship I’ve ever had for a shot at something more?

LUCKY NUMBER ELEVEN by Adriana Locke I’ve always been the person that does whatever someone tells me I can’t. Can’t graduate with a four-point-oh? Check. Can’t win a modeling contract without trying? Did it. Check. Can’t make it in the pro football league? Triple check with an MVP Award on top. When my best friend told me to stay away from his little sister, Layla, it didn’t sound like a challenge. Then again, I’d never seen her before. He obviously wasn’t thinking about who he was talking to if he believed I could ignore her. I obviously wasn’t thinking of him at all when I fell in love with her either.

HEARTBREAKER: Filthy Dirty Love Book 1 by Stacey Kennedy Veteran cop, Maddox Hunt, is all about the job. Sure, there are women—lots of women, truth be told—but there’s no one special. Until a one-night stand from his past, rookie Joss O’Neil is assigned to his division. Suddenly, all he can think about is her. Fresh out of field training, Joss has thrown herself into her job, determined to kick-start her career. And while police work has its thrills, her gorgeous new boss is what really gets her pulse pounding. Too bad he’s nothing but a distraction. Especially since he’s as devastatingly handsome as she remembers.

Every Dark Nights tale is breathtakingly sexy and magically romantic.

Review: WOUND TIGHT by Lorelei James!

My Review: First off, I'd like to mention that the description lists this as a may-December romance, and while I know that means an age gap, I though it specifically meant where the woman was older? Or have I finally been stumped when it comes to sub genre terms?

I was into this from the beginning. I liked Callie, she was strong and driven. She knew what she wanted - whether that be career or life wise - and she wasn't afraid to go for it. She worked her butt off at multiple jobs, and she was dang good at it. And I liked Justin too..  when he wasn't being a jerk about his attraction to her. But I did enjoy the fight to get them together, and all the drama leading up to a HEA.

Now excuse me, I'm going to find an old rodeo cowboy of my own...

Cover Lovin': 1001 Dark Nights classic.

Recommendation: All 1001 Dark Nights novellas can be read as a standalone.

Final Rating: FOUR POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (4.5/5)!!! Good, engrossing, and I couldn't stop reading.

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Lorelei James, comes WOUND TIGHT, a new crossover novella in her Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

About WOUND TIGHT:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lorelei James comes a crossover story in her Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® series…

A May-December romance hotter than the 4th of July…

Bull rider Justin Donohue spent his youth hell-bent on winning world championships. After hitting the big 4-0, Justin takes a job at the Grade A Ranch and Rodeo School, where he immediately locks horns (and lips) with the sexy, sassy Callie—a 22-year-old cowgirl set on seducing him. Discovering their age difference doesn’t deter Callie; neither does Justin’s warning that she deserves more than a busted-up former rodeo cowboy.

From the moment Callie Morgan encounters the hot-as-fire new ranch hand, she knows his gruff manner is an attempt to mask his attraction to her. But she’s never backed down from a challenge, especially not when Justin’s actions speak louder than his denials. Callie doesn’t give a damn that he’s older than her or what others might think of their relationship. The uptight cowboy needs to relax and she’ll do whatever it takes to loosen him up, proving there are no age restrictions when it comes to lust…or to falling in love.

About Lorelei James: Lorelei James is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of contemporary erotic western romances set in the modern day Wild West and also contemporary erotic romances. Lorelei’s books have been nominated for and won the Romantic Times Reviewer’s choice Award, as well as the CAPA Award. Lorelei lives in western South Dakota with her family…and a whole closet full of cow girl boots. From Lorelei: “Why do I have a particular fondness for all things western? Well, I’m a fourth generation South Dakotan, living in the Black Hills, which is chock-full of interesting characters, including cowboys, Indians, ranchers, and bikers. The geographical diversity of the surrounding area showcases mountains, plains, and badlands. Living in and writing about rural settings gives me a unique perspective, especially since I’m not writing historical westerns. Through my fictional world, I can show the ideals and the cowboy way of life are still very much alive.”
