Review: ROCK KING by Tara Leigh!

My Review: I love rock star romances. It is probably my all-time favorite sub-genre of romance... well, okay one of the top three, at least. So any time a new rock-star romance book gets released, I'm jumping at the bit to read it. But I was a little let down with this one. Maybe I got too excited and built it up in my mind, or maybe I'm just comparing it to previous ones I've read and loved, but this didn't wow me as much as I had hoped.

The story was good enough, but it just felt like it recycled well known plot points without adding anything new, original, or exciting. It was almost as if the author had cut parts of Kylie Scott, Kristen Callihan, and Nalini Singh's series and rearranged them a little. But hey, I still read it, and I still enjoyed it enough to finish. And I'd read the next book in the series because I saw a lot of promise here, and I think this book was worth it.

Cover Lovin': I like covers like these - I can imagine what the hero's face looks like.

Recommendation: Book one - no prior knowledge necessary!

Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (3.5/5)! This was an enjoyable read, but it was nothing to write home about. I'd check out more in the series in the future.

Today we are taking part in the promo tour for ROCK KING by Tara Leigh! ROCK KING is available now, and the second book in the Nothing but Trouble series, ROCK LEGEND, is available for pre-order and will release on July 17! Check out some teasers for both titles below.

ROCK KING by Tara Leigh - available now!

Blurb: Fans of Kristen Callihan and Kylie Scott will scream for this sizzling bad boy rock star romance!

I'm not who you think I am. Shane Hawthorne has it all. At least, that's what the headlines say about me. I have millions of fans, awards, more money - and women - than I know what to do with. But what you don't see is the wreckage I've caused. The memories and pain I can't escape, even when I pour them into music and spin them into gold. I tried to forget. To lose myself in booze and groupies. It didn't work. It hurt me and - worse - it hurt my band. That's the last thing I want to do, so I'm cleaning up my act... starting with Delaney Fraser. Gorgeous, smart, drama-free, and even nice - Delaney is the perfect "girlfriend." When I'm with her I don't have to pretend. It's like she sees the real me. And I can see a future with her. But that's dangerous. Because the truth is, Shane Hawthorne doesn't actually exist. He's a shield to hide who I really am. Fraud. Runaway. Addict. Murderer. And it's impossible to love a lie, right? Review: THE SOUL MATE by Kendall Ryan!

My Review: Mason can totally be my soul mate. If he's in the market, I'm 100% in. He was fantastic, I even liked his friend Trent. Bren's boss was great as well, but Bren herself.. It was rough for me to figure out how I felt about her while I was reading this book. I thought she had a great sense of humor, as evidenced by her snarky responses to the ice princess quiz. But her distrust of intimacy and her habit of going silent rather than explain her thoughts or feelings... it just made her feel a little like a jerk.

This book just felt so fast. It's on par, lengthwise, with the rest of the series, but it felt like it moved so much quicker than the other books. Due to this, I wasn't as in love with the storyline, because I didn't have that time to really get attached like I wanted. The idea is there, and super strong, it just didn't catch me as much as the previous books.

Cover Lovin': Delish! Fits with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: Each book I'm this series works as a stand alone.

Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars. I had my issues with Bren, and this book moved a little too quickly for me. But Mason more than made up for it. This book might not have hit the spot for me, but I am looking forward to more by this author!

Happy Reading!

Review: WORTH THE WAIT by Lori Foster!

Release Date: July 25th, 2017

Reading Order:
Book 1: Don't Tempt Me - See my review HERE!
Book 2: Worth The Wait

My Review: I am going to start this review by stating how much I love Hogan and Colt. Hogan is fantastic, and made me like the whole single-dad trend, which was never one of my interests before. And Colt.. Colt was absolutely perfect, and well written. Sometimes it's hard to write a believable teenager/young adult, but Lori Foster is a wonderful writer, and proves she can do anything - even write the perfect teenager.

Now to what I wasn't a huge fan of - Violet. I tried to like her, but she just seemed so self-serving. There were times I didn't really believe she liked Hogan, it just felt like she wanted him for what he could do for her or the diner. There were elements of their story that were cute and sweet, but the majority of the time, Violet just felt like a jerk to me.

Like with the first book, there was a secondary romance happening alongside the main couple. I think Nathan and Brooklin's story was probably the better one. I loved these two together, and it was so good to see Nathan get a happy ending, which was something I was hoping for since the first book. And as good as that secondary romance plot was, the small third romance was even better - Colt gets his own chance at love! And maybe he deserves a happily ever after most of all.

I loved Don't Tempt Me so much, so that could be why this book felt like such a let down in comparison. I think this is the first Lori Foster book I've read that hasn't gotten a four or five star rating. She remains one of my favorite authors, but I have to say I was disappointed with this book.

About the book: Single dad Hogan Guthrie is getting his life back on track, and working as the "barbecue master" at a local diner is just a temporary detour. He and restaurant owner Violet Shaw constantly butt heads…until one night they end up mingling other parts instead. Hogan thought he had the recipe for happiness all figured out. But loyal, carefree Violet is daring him to trust his impulses…and see just how sweet small-town living—and loving—can be.

Nathan Hawley traded his SWAT team credentials for a sheriff's badge, but a gorgeous new neighbor is shaking up his orderly life. Nathan has a hunch there's more to Brooklin Sweet than meets the eye—but given her caution about getting involved, he has his work cut out for him. Still, there's something about the elusive beauty Nathan can't walk away from—and helping her come to terms with her past might pave the way to the future they both secretly long for.

Cover Lovin': An excellent cover, and works perfectly with the first book.

Recommendation: Worth The Wait can work just fine as a stand-alone, but I personally recommend reading Don't Tempt Me because it was so good!

Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (3.5/5)! A little bit of a let down after the first book, but the secondary characters and their romances definitely make this worth a read.

Review: PLANNED SEDUCTION by Jess Dee!

Planned Seduction BT Banner Today is our stop on the blog tour for Planned Seduction! Grab your copy today and follow along the tour for all the fantastic release info.

My Review: This story had a lot of good things going for it. First off - it's a friends to lovers story line, and that's an instant classic. Next up, it was the hero that knew he was in love and wanted the relationship, and it was the heroine that was reluctant. While I would see that here or there before, I'm seeing it even more now, and I love it. In so many books it takes some big act or accident, or whatever, for the hero to realize that he's truly in love with the heroine. But not here - Daniel knows he's in love, he knows what he wants, and he's going to do whatever it takes to get her to fall in love with him too.

Now to what made me a little hesitant about this book - Amy. I wanted to shake her and make her realize that she was throwing away a good thing. And no matter what her good intentions were, she was just hurting everyone involved. I get it, being betrayed by a former love sucks royally and does make you look at future relationships a different way. But she just seemed like she was constantly shoving her head in the sand, and neglecting the feelings of the person that is supposedly her best friend.

Cover Lovin': Woo boy, it would be hard to pass this one up!

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary!

Final Rating: THREE AND A HALF out of FIVE stars (3.5/5). I thought this was a fun, one-sitting read. I loved Daniel, and he's dedication to getting what he wanted.

Review: MALCOLM: THE MEETING by Jade Sinner

Release Date: October 20th, 2016

Type: Series-yet-stand alone, Contemporary, Novella, Erotic, Blind Date

My Review: Jade Sinner is my ultimate crack-fic. When I want a quick, hot read, I pick one of Jade Sinner's novellas to lose myself in. I've read everything Jade Sinner has released to date, and she just keeps getting better. I say she, but Jade Sinner is a writing duo - and I wish I knew their separate names so I could stalk their backlist!

I loved the twists and surprises in this book. Sure, it was a bit cliche, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I also appreciate how well they wrote a single mother. Amanda/Mandy is nervous about going out for the first time since her husband died. She also was afraid to introduce Malcolm to her son, because she didn't want him to get attached.

Cover Lovin': Fits in perfectly with the rest of the series!

Recommendation: While technically this is part of a series, each novella works as a stand-alone.

Final Rating: THREE AND A HALF out of FIVE stars! While I did really enjoy this, it just didn't match the greatness that was Duncan: The Deal.

Happy Reading!

Review: CHASED BY LOVE by Melissa Foster!

Release Date: August 17th, 2016

Type: Contemporary Romance, Actress, Rock Star, Series, Not-so-bad boy

My Review: This is one of those books that I genuinely enjoyed, but I just didn't get sucked into it. You know how, when you're reading a good book, you forget you're actually reading? It just plays like a movie in your head? Well, I didn't get that with Chased By Love. I was very entertained and interested while reading, it just wasn't so engrossing that I forgot about the real world. I think that might have to do with how fast things seem to move, and how the dialog just felt a little.. off, I guess.

But don't let the above paragraph turn you off this book, or make you think that I didn't like it. Not true! I did like it. I loved reading about Boone and Trish, and watching the two of them come together despite everything else going on in their lives. This is a good book, and a very enjoyable read. And I liked the author's writing style enough that I would gladly check out more books in this series, The Ryders. Just what I got of Trish's brothers made me think their own stories would be amusing and worth a read.

Cover Lovin': I really like this cover. I especially appreciate that  the cover model has Trish's exact tattoo - that's hard to match up, sometimes.

Recommendation: I'm a complete newbie to the series, and I did just fine - so no prior knowledge necessary. That said, I'd love to hear more about Trish's brothers.

Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars! A fun read, and I'd love to check out the rest of the series.

Review: KAYDEN/SIMON by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright! (1001 Dark Nights)

Release Date: August 9th, 2016

Type: Shifters, Pumas, Paranormal Romance, Novellas, 1001 Dark Nights, Books 21-22, Bayou Heat series

My Review: I've read multiple books by Alexandra Ivy, and Laura Wright has been on my watch list for some time - so I've always wanted to check out their Bayou Heat series. And with Kayden/Simon being a part of the 1001 Dark Nights series, I couldn't pass up the chance! I love shifter romances, and these two authors have created a fascinating world surrounding their Pantera clan (Puma shifters). Having read this volume, I can definitely say I'll be going back and giving the first book(s) a shot!

I read the first story, "Kayden," and just going off the description, I figured that one would be my favorite of the two. Some scenarios just appeal to me more than others, what can I say. And considering how much I liked Kayden, both the story itself as well as the character, I didn't think "Simon" could hold up. So imagine how excited I was when "Simon" proved to be just as good, if not even better. I loved seeing the dynamic between the heroes and heroines, and how each couple manged to come together as mates. I also liked seeing how the characters interacted with others in their clan - which made me that much more interested in going back and reading earlier books in the series, to see how those characters might have gotten their happy endings.

I'm going with a 3.5 on this one. It's not that the stories were bad - they weren't! I clearly enjoyed them. It's just, based on the space constraints, it felt like there wasn't enough of each story to get me fully involved. Which is always tough when reading a novella - and in this case, there were two stories in one novella, giving each one even less room. But overall, I liked them. And both of these authors will remain on my follow list!

Cover Lovin': Fits the rest of the 1001 Dark Nights series. I love the subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences between them all.

Recommendation: I was a completely newbie to this overarching series (Bayou Heat), so you can be too!
Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars! (3.5/5) Very fun stories. It was hard to choose which one I liked better, they were both a fun read.

Alexandra Ivy - headshotAlexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on. Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold! I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Laura Wright - headshotLaura Wright is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

Review: HITCHED PART THREE by Kendall Ryan

Release Date: August 2nd, 2016

Type: Novella, Serial novel, Series, Book 3, Contemporary Romance, Arranged marriage, Just Kiss Already!

My Review: After the way the second book ended, I was on edge and couldn’t wait for the next one. I love Noah, and I wasn’t sure how he would be able to make up for the seriously stupid move he made at the end of book two. And throughout the book, I was stuck somewhere between wanting Olivia to get over herself and forgive him, and wanting her to make him suffer a little more. I loved Olivia for how strong and business savvy she was. But her analytical approach to matters of the heart frustrated me on more than a few occasions.

But because of Olivia and Noah’s completely different natures, I loved seeing the two of them come back together after such a big upset. It’s easy to see that these two work as a couple - they need each other. But now that the series has concluded - I still don’t know why Olivia disliked Noah so much in the beginning. They clearly liked hanging out when they were younger, I don’t think the author ever went into exactly why Olivia was so bitter as an adult. There was a brief mention of the unwillingness to sleep with each other when they were younger, but it’s hard to believe that Olivia would hold that against Noah for so many years.

I did like this series, but this volume didn’t feel like it had as much of a punch as the first book. It was definitely better than book two, which felt a bit more like a placeholder, or a way to further the plot, rather than its own book… but I still didn’t like it as much as the first in the series. But I really liked Kendall Ryan’s writing, so I can’t wait to check out more by her in the future!

Cover Lovin’: Fits perfectly with the series of the series.

Recommendation: This is the last book in the trilogy, so you’ll definitely need to have read the first two!

Final Rating: THREE POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (3.5/5). A good end to this series, but it lacked the magic of the first book, at least for me. But Kendall Ryan is still on my TBR!

Hitched 3I’ve ruined everything.

I’ve broken the cardinal rule and fallen in love with my fake wife, and then I went and did the worst thing a husband can do.

Winning her back will be nearly impossible, but I’ve never backed down from a challenge before and I’m sure as hell not about to start now. Olivia will be mine, and I can’t wait to put a bun in her oven.

You won’t want to miss the final installment in Noah and Olivia’s love story, and especially the way this over-the-top alpha male wins over his bride once and for all.

This is the third and final volume in the story.
