Review: PROMISES by Aleatha Romig!

My Review: This is the perfect ending to this series. It just fits so perfectly, and felt so right. And man, it was certainly a journey to get to this point, so thank goodness this was so satisfying. Honestly, I wasn't even sure I would survive everything up to this - I mean, Aleatha Romig made my heart hurt more than once - heck, more than a dozen times! But I made it, and I'm so glad I did.

There is no way for me to discuss the best parts, my favorite parts, without spoiling this book or the previous ones, and I would never do that to someone. There's something so refreshing and shocking about going into this series blind, and I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of that. So just trust me - you need to read this series. Do yourself a favor and get the Web of Sin trilogy onto your kindles (or any other designated reading device) ASAP!!

Cover Lovin': Fits beautifully with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: You *HAVE* to have read the previous two books first, this is a direct sequel.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!!! What an epic finale! I think I might go swoon from being all overly emotional now.

Release Day: RESPECT by Jay Crownover!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jay Crownover, comes the next title in her The Breaking Point romantic suspense series, RESPECT. Don’t miss the amazing excerpt below, and order your copy today!

About RESPECT:

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who called a corrupt kingdom home sweet home.

Protected and sheltered from the worst the world had to offer, she fell in love with the crumbling city that burned and blazed around her. Every dirty corner, every scary shadow, found a place within her heart. So did a man who was violent and dangerous, just like the streets she claimed as her own.

He was all business and brutality, except when it came to her. With her, he was calm, caring, and heartbreakingly patient.

He warned her over and over that he wasn't the man for her, but she refused to listen. She never expected either the streets or their enforcer to hurt her, since she'd given her heart so completely to both.

She should have known the streets in the Point were always going to be savage, and so was the man committed to keeping control of them in the hands of criminals and bloody kingpins.

Blindsided by a betrayal which cut so deeply she was sure the wounds would never heal, the princess fled the home she loved and the man who broke her heart. Throwing away her rusted, twisted crown was supposed to help her forget. All it did was make her long for everything she left behind. She told herself she would never go back, but in this tormented kingdom, family is everything. Eventually, she has no choice but to return.

While she was gone, the people who loved her worked hard to make the city safe, and the man who destroyed her sank deeper into the darkness. Going back shouldn't feel like surrender... but it does. As this pretty princess hovers on the edge of the unknown, the past attacks with a vengeance. It's a good reminder that puppy love eventually grows up and turns into something with sharp teeth and one hell of a bite.

She never asked for the keys to the kingdom. She'd much rather go out and build her own.

EXCERPT: ~Karsen~ I had no plans to leave the Point. It was ugly, mean, hard, and unforgiving, but these streets were home and I couldn’t imagine being happy anywhere else. This place had long since made my hands and the edges of my soul dirty. It was something I would be hard-pressed to hide should I go anywhere else. I’d have to spend my days trying to camouflage the filth I was so familiar with. Here, no one looked twice at the pretty teenager with shadows in her eyes and blood on her hands. I was one of many. I wasn’t interested in leaving behind my sister or her fiancĂ©, Race. We were an odd, dysfunctional family, but we made it work. I didn’t want to be too far away from my mother, who was living in a group home as she slowly, painfully tried to recover from her alcoholism and PTSD from an accident she caused that ended up taking the life of a young mother and her child. But more than anything, I absolutely didn’t want to leave him. I couldn’t imagine a day going by without catching a glimpse of Noah Booker. I mean, he was impossible to miss. Six-and-a-half-feet tall, body built like a professional athlete, dark and brooding with the prettiest gunmetal-gray eyes, he was the entirety of every one of my teenage fantasies. I barely noticed the jagged scar dividing one side of his face. White and raised, it cut one of his black eyebrows in half, slashed over a high cheekbone, and ended somewhere under the chiseled edge of his hard jaw. He never talked about it, but Race, Booker’s boss, let it slip that Booker got the scar when he was locked up. Or maybe it wasn’t as much of a slip-up as a thinly veiled warning. Race never kept it much of a secret that my infatuation with his massive, dangerous, ex-con enforcer made him extremely uncomfortable. He’d warned me over and over again that Booker wasn’t for me. And he’d made it clear to the man who broke knees and smashed heads for a living that he was to stay as far away from me as possible. They called it puppy love. It wasn’t. To me, it was a vicious kind of love, filled with teeth and claws that I could feel digging at my insides every single time someone patted me on the head and told me how young I was, how much life I had yet to live. This love was rabid, and I was tired of having it on a leash. I wanted to let it free, wanted to let it sink its razor-sharp fangs into the man who had awoken the primal need inside of me. It was only fair he felt the same kind of crushing bite and painful pressure around his heart that I did every single day. I was solely focused on getting to Booker. It barely registered I was done with high school and had new doors opening all around me. I couldn’t care less about getting my hands on my diploma. A piece of paper with Karsen Carter written on it in pretty calligraphy meant exactly nothing to me. The only thing I was focused on was the fact I was finally old enough to make my own choices. And I’d always picked Booker. Over and over again he was my number one priority.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

Review: SALVAGED by Jay Crownover! EXCERPT included!

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover continues her delightfully sexy Saints of Denver series with the next thrilling standalone, SALVAGED! Order your copy today!

My Review: Okay, I'm going to try and refrain from tearing up, because the Marked Men and the Saints of Denver are two of my all-time favorite series. They both have a very prominent place on my keeper shelves - and I'm both happy and heartbroken to see these series come to a close. And what a way to end the series - Wheeler and Poppy's book packs such a huge emotional punch, this really is a case of going out with a bang. I've been eager for Wheeler's book since the character was introduced. Despite being a side character, he quickly became one of my favorites, and this book just solidifies his place in my harem of book boyfriends. He's such an amazing guy, willing to give so much of himself to make the people he cares about happy. His need for a family about broke my heart, I just wanted to give him a huge hug.

Now, I said this book packs an emotional punch, and I'm not kidding. Poppy has had a very, VERY rough life, and it's still haunting her. But that makes her relationship with Wheeler that much sweeter, because it shows how much of a caregiver he is. And on top of that, it shows how strong Poppy is - like it was said in the book, she's a survivor, not a victim. And it's not just the abuse angle that had me nearly in tears - the epilogue(s) at the end.. I almost lost it. After following these characters since their original release (I started reading Jay's books when Rome released, so very near the beginning!), and to see them all together again, living their happily ever afters.. *sniffle*

I can't wait to see where Jay takes us next. I know her Breaking Point series is the next release, and I'm ashamed to say I'm behind in reading the Point and Breaking Point books, so I need to hurry and catch up. And I'm excited to be attending a huge multi-author book signing in August that she will be attending.. so I better start thinking about which of my books I need her to sign!

I can't say enough how much I love this author. If you like your men hot and tattooed.. If you love New Adult Romance... If you just need a book that will make you both sniffle and chuckle, look no further than this.

Cover Lovin': This cover is perfect for Wheeler and Poppy, and fits perfectly with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: Salvaged can be read as a stand-alone, but I suggest reading at least the whole Saints of Denver series, if not the Marked Men as well. There are plenty of characters that cross over.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)! This was a perfect end to one of my all-time favorite series. I fell in love with Wheeler and Poppy, and their story was everything I could have hoped it would be.

Happy Reading!

Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancĂ©e who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He’s tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Wheeler can see Poppy’s pain and all he wants to do is take care of her and make her smile, whatever it takes.

Poppy can’t remember a time when she didn’t see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt from the men who swore to protect her, Poppy’s determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Wheeler’s sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn’t captivate her, but every time she’s with him, she can’t help being pulled closer to him. Though she’s terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out—and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it near impossible to resist him.
The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

EXCERPT:
“I don’t know that I have the time to take on a puppy right now, Poppy.” He lifted a hand and rubbed it across the back of his neck. His mahogany-colored eyebrows pulled into a vee over the top of his nose and the corners of his mouth pulled down in a frown that was too harsh for his pretty face. I liked it much better when he smiled and his twin dimples cut deeply into his cheeks.
I bit my bottom lip to keep the distressed noise that I could feel climbing up the back of my throat at bay. I knew he might say no but I couldn’t hide the fact that I was disappointed by his decision. I honestly felt like he and the puppy would be good for one another, that they could bring a little joy into each other’s life. It broke my heart a little that Wheeler wasn’t ready to open his heart up again, even when it was to something that was so obviously eager to love him unconditionally and irrevocably, unlike his ex.
“It’s okay, Wheeler. Like I said, I’ll take him home until I can find a place for him. I’m sure Dolly could use a friend.” I crouched down and wiggled my fingers to get the dog’s attention, and grinned when he bounded over, tripping over his front legs as he scrambled in my direction. “I can take him to work with me and hold on to him until I figure something out. One of the boys at the shop will step up if Dixie doesn’t want another dog.”
I heard him sigh and looked up to see him watching me intently. He opened his mouth like he was going to say something, then let it snap shut with his teeth audibly clicking together. I didn’t know much about Wheeler, but what I did know I liked. He was nice. He was polite. He was thoughtful and he was kind. But more than any of those things, he went out of his way to hold himself in a way that wasn’t threatening or intimidating because he was aware without me saying a word how jumpy I was around people, men in particular. I hated that they were bigger than me. I hated that I knew firsthand how badly they could hurt me if they had a mind to. I hated that I wilted and cowered under their attention, even if it was innocent and friendly. The fact that he took care not to spook me spoke volumes and made me feel awful for putting him in such an awkward position.
“Poppy…” He sounded regretful and I had no interest in dragging the torture out any longer for either of us. I scooped up the dog and buried my nose in the top of his head.
“Seriously it’s no big deal. I love him and I’m happy to wait until I can find him a proper home. It was stupid of me not to consider how busy you are with everything you have going on in your life right now. A puppy is a big commitment and that’s not something you can put on someone else without discussing it with them first.” The dog swiped his tongue across my face, no doubt feeling my distress and rising panic. I wanted to tuck his warm little body to my chest and run away like I was trying to score a touchdown in the other team’s end zone. “I should have known better.”

Review: UP IN FLAMES by Abbi Glines

Release Date: June 28th, 2016

Type: New Adult, Series, Series Finale, Book 13, Rosemary Beach, Contemporary, From hate-her to love-her

About the Book: The villain of Rosemary Beach finally gets her own happy ending in the long-awaited final novel of the #1 New York Times bestselling new adult romance series by Abbi Glines.

The blockbuster #1 New York Times bestselling Rosemary Beach series ends with a bang when the troubled character readers love to hate gets her very own happily ever after in this eagerly anticipated and overwhelmingly requested story. Known for causing problems for everyone in Rosemary Beach, Nan has been growing up lately, and she’s finally taking center stage—and finding love with the man she least expected. [Synopsis from Goodreads.com]

My Review: Guys, I can't believe I'm saying this... but I like Nan. She has, for sure, been a huge villain throughout the entire Rosemary Beach series - partially because she's related to a good portion of them, and therefore demanding of her relatives' attention. But I can't believe it. Abbi Glines actually made me feel bad for her. Nan's gotten better towards the end of the series, sure, but she is still a self-centered witch. Or.. she was. And I'm not one for love triangles, that trope has been done to death, but Glines manages to throw a weird wrench into the traditional love triangle plot to make it feel different enough to work.

Nan finds herself torn between Major and Gannon, and frankly, for a while there.. I didn't know who to root for. Honestly, I hated them both, at least a little, and in different ways. But I also saw something good in both of them. I think Major was what Nan thought she wanted, whereas Gannon was what she needed. Anyone familiar with the series knows how much of a handful Nan can be - and Gannon is the perfect foil for her mood swings and catty moments.

Normally, what keeps me reading Glines' books are the characters. I've always found the stories to be okay, but nothing spectacular. But the past few Rosemary Beach books have shown a lot of promise, and even made me look forward to the next one. But Up In Flames had me hooked the whole way through. This was a one-sitting read for me, because I couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going to happen, and how everything was going to be solved. And even though this is the final Rosemary Beach book, there better be a spin-off, because what happens to a certain character absolutely cannot be the end!

And for those of you that just keep coming back for the steamy scenes - because yes, Abbi Glines knows her way around some good, hot scenes - trust me, Up In Flames has the best stuff yet.

Cover Lovin': Good. Fits the rest of the series, and it definitely caught my eye while browsing.

Recommendation: As Nan has been a constant character throughout the Rosemary Beach series, and her escapades are therefore widely known - it would help to have some prior knowledge of Nan before reading this.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! I can't believe how much I liked this, especially since how I have been a Nan-hater since the very beginning. But really, this blew me away. And yeah.. whew, Gannon really did it for me. And he really is the perfect foil for Nan. Honestly, I hope we get to visit Rosemary Beach again in the future.

Make sure to pre-order your copy of Up In Flames by Abbi Glines today. You won't want to miss Nan's story!
Happy Reading!
