Review: OUR OPTIONS HAVE CHANGED by Julia Kent

Type: Contemporary Romance, Woman in power, Adoption, Empty Nesters?

My Review: I was not prepared for this book. I offered to review it, thinking it might be a nice change. Something different for me, considering I'm not the biggest fan of books with kids. But then this book happened, and I was beyond pleasantly surprised by how much I loved it. I was invested in these characters, I had to know what was going to happen - would everything really work out?

This is my second book by Julia Kent, and I'm surprised she hasn't come up sooner in my never ending search for the next great read. Both books I've read by her featured intriguing stories, with great hooks. And she adds just the right amount of humor - subtle, fitting in perfectly with the tone of the rest of the book.

Cover Lovin': One hot cover! Definitely caught my eye.

Recommendation: Nada. No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FOUR AND A HALF out of FIVE stars!! (4.5/5) This blew me away with how much I loved it. This is a one-sitting read for sure- you won't want to put it down!!

Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy for review purposes.

Happy Reading!

Besides, talk about fantasy.
The right guy?
Pfft. Right.
And then in walks Nick Grafton, with those commanding sapphire eyes and wavy blonde hair and a sophisticated mouth that only smiles for her.
He’s perfect.
But the last thing Nick wants is to start fresh with a new baby as his college-age kids fly the coop. A single father for more than fifteen years after his wife walked out on her family, Nick finally tastes freedom.
But he likes the taste of Chloe more.

DEFYING HER MAFIOSO by Terri Anne Browning

The Vitucci Mafiosos, #1

Coming October 18th

BLURB:

Ciro Donati was many things: My father’s most valued and trusted soldier. My brother’s best friend and second in command. And the only man I would give up everything for. I fell hard for the Mafioso at the tender age of eleven. This beast of a man who I knew made people disappear—and probably enjoyed every second of it—was also the sixteen-year-old boy who had picked me up after I’d fallen flat on my face during my dance recital and told me I was the best ballerina he’d ever seen. He’s watched over me, protected me like I was the most precious thing in the world to him. And then he sent me away. Scarlett Vitucci was many things: The daughter of the biggest Cosa Nostra boss from New York to Chicago. The sister of the man I would gladly take a bullet for. And the only woman I would ever love. Sending her away was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I didn’t deserve her or her love. For three years I stayed away, ignoring the gnawing ache that her absence left in my chest. Now, she was back and fighting what I felt for her was impossible. Letting her go had been a huge mistake. One I would never repeat. dhmpreoderpromo2

Interview with Kourtney Heintz - and grab a freebie!

Author Kourtney Heintz dropped by to answer a few questions!  And she's made book one, The Six Train to Wisconsin free for the month of October!

Amanda, thank you so much for having me here on your blog today!

Name your go-to author for a good read.

I have several, so these are my two favorites right now.

Richelle Mead: I was sucked into her Vampire Academy series. I forgot to eat and sleep until I finished her book.

John Green: He always tells a beautifully crafted tale. Guaranteed laugh and sob out loud moments.

What draws you to the genre you write?

My novels tend to cross genres mixing paranormal with mystery/suspense and love story. I believe in the unbelievables—telepaths, telekinesis, ghosts, curses, and spells. I think they are all possible and it makes life much more interesting when you have that possibility. So many things in life remain a mystery—I can’t seem to write a story without a mystery/suspense at its core.

Do you write full-time or part-time?

I write full-time. I spend about 5-6 hours per day writing. I spend another 3-4 hours promoting. Before a book launch my promo time is using 6 hours a day. I have a part-time teaching gig and I do school visits as well. Book sales can be up and down, and it take months to see the royalties, so it helps to have some constant income without sacrificing my writing time. Life’s all about tradeoffs.

Stand-alones or series, what is your preference?

I prefer series to read and write. I like getting to go back to a place and hang out with characters more. For me, it’s also exciting to see how the pieces of a book’s arc and a series’ arc come together.

Though, I am playing around with a standalone concept just to try something different and be “one and done” for a change.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Every single No is one step closer to a Yes. You never know what day or what person will say Yes. So you must keep trying until you get that Yes. If you stop when someone says No, that’s all you will have. You will make the No permanent. If you keep going, a No is simply a bump in the road to Yes.

If you decided to give up writing (please don’t!) what would your next choice career be?

I’d probably go back to working on Wall Street. It wasn’t my passion, but if I were going to give up my passion, I’d go back to what I did before because I found joy in it and the perks were really amazing.

I also wanted to let your readers know, the first book in the series, The Six Train to Wisconsin, will be free on Amazon in October. So if they’d like to try the series out, they can read the first book free: http://www.amazon.com/Six-Train-Wisconsin-Book-ebook/dp/B00CJIXKG2

Back Cover Summary:

His secrets almost killed her. Her secrets may destroy them both.

Kai is recovering from a near-death experience when she realizes something isn’t right. Her body is healing, but her mind no longer feels quite like her own. Her telepathic powers are changing, too. She can’t trust herself. The darkness growing inside of her pushes her to use her telepathy as a weapon.

Oliver clings to the hope that he can save their marriage, even though he was the one who put her life in jeopardy. As his wife slips further and further away from him, he becomes increasingly obsessed with bringing the man who ruined his life to justice.

The sequel to The Six Train to Wisconsin is a genre-defying tale of love and consequences. Once again, award-winning author Kourtney Heintz seamlessly weaves suspense and paranormal intrigue into a real-world setting, creating characters rich in emotional and psychological complexity.
