Review: MEMENTO MORI by Lexi Blake!

My Review: Lexi Blake does it every time, I swear. It's like she can't not write a book that has me glued the whole way through. And I don't know what she does better, the suspense or the steamy stuff. Luckily, I don't have to choose because she always manages to pack both into all of her books, and Memento Mori is no exception.

I won't say this is my all time favorite Blake book.. but it's pretty high up there. I thought the characterization was spot on, and I absolutely loved River and Jax together. There's just something so right about their relationship. I may want a Jax of my own, but I guess if I can't have him myself, I can wish him happiness with River. I'm definitely looking forward to more in this series - as always, Blake has me hooked!

Cover Lovin': Sexy, yet dangerous.

Recommendation: Some knowledge of Lexi Blake's other series is helpful, but not required.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!!!

“This place is beautiful,” he said when she hesitated. She nodded but didn’t move from her seat. “I love it here. I went to college in Denver, but I always missed this place. When I was younger, my dad had a house in Creede. He started the business there, but when he could, he moved us out of town. My dad was a loner, I suppose. Creede has a population of four hundred and Dad thought that was way too many people.” “I know the feeling. I lived in London for a while. That was definitely too many people.” He kept his tone even. It was odd. Now that he was here, that hunger he always felt was tempered by her fear. He’d thought he would take anything offered to him, but he couldn’t having met her. If the blonde had offered herself up, he would have turned her down. Over the two hours they’d sat in the booth, eating fried food and drinking beer, he’d figured something out. Some people were more special than others. River was special. He should be more cynical. He could hear Damon Knight telling him to be cautious, but he couldn’t make himself do it. Perhaps it was the fact that he didn’t have a long well of history to draw from and to teach him that this was likely a mistake. It didn’t feel like a mistake. “Wow. I’ve never been farther than Kansas City.” She still wasn’t moving and her voice had taken on a tremulous tone. His heart constricted, and it was surprisingly easy to not listen to his dick. His dick was pleading with him to get aggressive. His dick was trying to convince him that if he could get inside her, she would accept him. Yeah, he wasn’t going to listen to his dick. “If you’ve changed your mind, I can call my brother to pick me up. I have a phone and so does he. His number is programmed in. I don’t want to scare you. I had a good time talking to you tonight. It was one of the nicest nights I’ve had in a long time.” Ever. It was the best night ever. It was the first night he felt normal, though he wasn’t exactly sure what that word meant. Comfortable was a better one. That tight feeling in his chest had eased as he’d sat in the booth with River and Tucker and Heather. Although he’d hated lying to her. She finally turned, looking at him. Her eyes shone in the moonlight. “You mean that, don’t you?” He wanted to touch her. He’d had to force his hands not to move toward her all night long. The most he’d allowed himself was to have their hips and shoulders touch as they’d sat next to each other. He’d decided it had been a good thing he’d sat next to her because he was fairly certain he had a case of Big Tag’s crazy eyes, and she would have seen them had he sat across from her. “I do mean it. Please don’t get me wrong. I want you. I would like nothing more in the world than to take you into that cabin, lay you out, and make a feast of you. I want to kiss you and when I say that I don’t merely mean your lips. I want to put my mouth all over your body. But more than I want that, I want you to like me.” It was important somehow. He wouldn’t see her after tonight, but he couldn’t stand the idea that she was afraid of him. Everyone was afraid of him. Everyone he knew was waiting for his powder keg to blow, but he’d sworn to himself earlier in the evening that it wouldn’t blow around her. He would protect her even if it was only for one night.
NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband, three kids, and the laziest rescue dog in the world. She began writing at a young age, concentrating on plays and journalism. It wasn’t until she started writing romance and urban fantasy that she found the stories of her heart. She likes to find humor in the strangest places and believes in happy endings no matter how odd the couple, threesome, or foursome may seem.

Review: SEXY MOTHER FAKER by Remy Rose!

My Review:  Right away, I was liking this book considerably more than the previous one. Damon is more of a likeable character, and I enjoyed Delaney's fatalistic humor when it comes to her job. I really connected with these two - I could feel their frustrations, amusements, and attraction.

As much as I liked the hero and heroine, and enjoyed watching them fall in love and come together, I didn't feel the same about the story itself. I don't know how to explain it other than - some books you just sink into and lose yourself in the story... and this one just didn't have that melty quality. But there was enough good in this book to make it an entertaining read, and worth the time.

Cover Lovin': Those abs!

Recommendation: Can be read as a stand alone.

Final Rating: THREE AND A HALF out of FIVE stars (3.5/5)!! A fun read, just what I needed to brighten up this gloomy summer day.

Today we are celebrating the release of SEXY MOTHER FAKER by Remy Rose. It is the second book in the Big Sexy Series and the first book in the series, BIG DECK, is available now! The series is being published by Jack's House Publishing.

Synopsis:

When faking it becomes aching for it Damon They say a bachelor with a big “vessel” is a babe magnet. And you know what? They aren’t wrong. But the CEO of the family yacht company (a.k.a. my mother) is rocking my boat, demanding I bed and wed the heiress of one of our biggest competitors. If my mother doesn’t get her way and decides to fire me, I forfeit millions in trust fund money. So there’s that. Salvation comes in the form of Delaney Brewster, who just happens to need an investor. In exchange, she agrees to help me stave off Mommie Dearest by pretending to be my girlfriend. It’s a crazy faking idea, but even crazier? My heart is telling me that spunky, sexy Delaney could be the real deal. Delaney It’s not an overstatement to say my 9-to-5 equates to lying underneath a hairy fat guy and faking an orgasm. I desperately want to start my own business, but my cash flow…isn’t. Until Damon Cavanaugh makes me an offer my bank account can’t refuse. Pretending to be his girlfriend should be easy, since I’ve sworn off serious relationships. And let’s face it, he’s easy on the eyes. But the more I get to know Damon, the less it feels like acting. And when his mother steps up the pressure, the gloves—and the masks—have to come off, exposing the one thing I swore to protect…my heart.

I’m yours for the duration of the project. And then, it’s over. Most women find it difficult to say goodbye, and sometimes it’s hard for me, too—literally. See what I just did there? But that’s the way it has to be, and I’ve always been able to handle it. I wasn’t prepared for how he’d make me laugh, blush, swoon…ache. Review: THE BREAKUP by Erin McCarthy!

My Review: The Breakup opens with a bit of rocky footing, but manages to smooth its stride as time goes on. It hasn't been too long since I read the first book, The Hookup, but apparently it has been long enough that I lost a lot of important details that lead to the goings-on of The Breakup. For that reason, the opening of this book feels so jarring and awkward, and why I am highly recommending anyone interested in this book read The Hookup first.

I don't want to spoil anything for you, but a few things happen in this book that didn't work for me, and made one character lose some respect in my eyes. It's probably just a personal thing, but it did pull me out of the story. Also, about the same time, the pacing started to feel a little rushed, so it was difficult to keep up.

It's not all bad, though, I promise! The characters are intriguing, the plot realistic, and the character interactions are, for the most part, genuine. If you like your New Adult Contemporary Romances with a dose of flawed reality, this is definitely a book for you!

Cover Lovin': Thumbs up!

Recommendation: Knowledge of the first book, The Hookup, is recommended.

Final Rating: THREE out of FIVE stars (3/5)! Good, but has a few hiccups that might turn off some readers.

About THE BREAKUP

Can two wrongs feel oh-so-right? This bride is about to find out—with the bad boy who makes an epic breakup worth her while.
Bella: I know I’m a princess. I’m used to getting what I want. But all I ever really wanted was a husband and a family. Unlike my sister, Sophie, I’ll never have a brilliant career to fall back on. So what’s a bride to do when she learns that Prince Charming is a cheating snake just a few days before her fairy-tale wedding? With my fiancĂ© begging for another chance, the only way to save the wedding is to even things out with a little revenge sex—and local bartender Christian Jordan seems like the right man for the job.
Christian: If gorgeous Bella Bigelow thinks sleeping with me will somehow lead to happily ever after, I’m not going to turn her down. The guy she wants to marry is a jerk, and her sister is fooling around with my estranged twin brother, Cain. So what’s the problem—besides falling for a woman who doesn’t know what she wants out of life? All I want to do is whisk her away from that church, take her to a cabin in the woods, and act out all our naughtiest fantasies. And I may just get the chance. . . .
Don’t miss Sophie and Cain’s story in The Hookup!

Review: YOU PROMISED ME FOREVER by Monica Murphy!

YPMF-SBPRBANNER-BT (1).jpg

My Review: Oh Monica Murphy... how can you play with my emotions like that? But you know what, it hurts so good! This second chance romance was a huge hit for me, and really hit the spot. It was just so.. so... sweet, and cute, and made me happy. I want a Tuttle of my own. I found a new book boyfriend to add to my harem!

This book, though it definitely stands alone, is a sort-of continuation of Monica Murphy's young adult series. Tuttle was in that series as well, and I loved his character there just as much. But we get a full dose of him here, and thank goodness because I need more of him in my life. I was a sucker for this book from the first page, and it was everything I wanted and needed.

Cover Lovin': I love it!

Recommendation: Works as a stand alone, but I highly recommend the teen series if you enjoy the drama.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!!! Couldn't put it down, and I love this book so much that I want to hug it.

Excerpt:
Jordan
Of course, I’m not going to shake Amanda’s hand.
Instead I grab hold of it, that unmistakable jolt of electricity sparking when our skin connects, just like every other time we’ve touched. I pull her to me and wrap her up in my arms because I can. I’m the one who offered up the tickets so I could…what? Show off? Let her know exactly how great my life is?
I can’t lie. My life is pretty damn great. I have everything I could ever want—except for one thing.
“Hi Jordan,” she breathes against my neck, and I swear she melts into me a little. Like she can’t help herself. Like we somehow still fit together even after all these years.
Either she got smaller or I grew bigger since the last time I touched her, and I’m guessing it’s the latter. She smells familiar, yet different. Better. I recognize the scent of her shampoo, but nothing else. Her hair is longer. Thick. Dark and wavy, up in a ponytail and a little disheveled, like she’s had a long day. Her body is curvier, something teenaged Amanda would’ve never believed could happen. She still has those sexy long legs, though.
Finally, she pulls away from me, her lips curled, her eyes sparkling, nervousness written all over her face, and I watch her carefully in return, my expression as neutral as I can make it. Honestly, I’m still a little pissed over that garbage game we just played, and I’m tense like I usually am after. Her understanding gaze meets mine and I know she knows what I’m feeling. We’ve always been in tune with each other…
She’s my Mandy, all grown up. But not my Mandy anymore.

Title: MAKE IT MUSIC

Author: Everly Lucas

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Make It Music:

House parties. Hot jocks. New friends. Typical college experiences, right?   Sleepless nights. Racing thoughts. Slipping grades. Drinking way too much and waking up alone in a strange bed with no memory of how I got there, then bolting before having to face whoever put my drunk ass up for the night… Slightly less typical.   Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m making a mess of my freshman year, but I can fix my own mistakes. I don’t need anyone swooping in to save me, especially not my overbearing, unfairly gorgeous psych professor.   So what if he manages to make tweed look sexy? So what if I get chills when he says my name? So what if he kisses me like it would kill him not to? None of that stuff matters once I finally remember that his was the strange bed I woke up in the night I blacked out.   Nope. I don’t need him. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting him like crazy…even when crazy is exactly how I feel.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Unable to move faster than a tranquilized sloth, I make it to class with barely a second to spare. As soon as I step through the door, Professor Ryan looks my way, which is an improvement, but he also appears to be staring daggers at me, which is not. Lacking the minimum amount of sleep necessary for taming my inner bitch, I fling eye-daggers right back at him. Take that, asshole. But what does he do? He smiles. I could’ve handled more contempt, because that would’ve been an appropriate reaction this time. But the fact that he finds my sass amusing just pisses me off even more. If it wouldn’t mean instant expulsion and, in all likelihood, criminal charges, I’d claw his smug face right off. Grumbling, I head for an empty seat in the back row. Midway there, the professor announces, “Everybody, stand up.” He waits as the confused, groggy students slowly rise to their feet and glance around at each other. “Now find your desk from Tuesday. That will be your assigned seat for the rest of the semester.” Crap. Crappity crap crap crap. Several students groan—myself included—but we all resignedly take our things to our original desks. The front row and I will not be best friends today. Or any day, really. I try not to sneak anymore peeks at Professor Ryan, but peeking is unavoidable. My traitor eyes are drawn to the man. His eyes appear to be drawn to me, too, as he watches me drop my bag on the floor and plop down in my chair. That infuriating smirk is still in place, so I stick my tongue out at him, apparently unable to control the childish impulses I usually manage to keep in check. The corners of his lips turn up a few more notches and form a grin of massive, condescending proportions. Paranoid thoughts creep in again. Was the assigned-seat thing because of me? Did he want me within easy teasing distance, or something? Is he seriously that cruel? My logical brain tells me I’m being ridiculous, but paranoia is rarely ever open to seeing reason. It’s just there, being all unreasonable, and you can’t do shit about it. Why can’t he go back to ignoring me? I liked that better than all this confusing attention. While I’m busy convincing myself I’m not at the center of the decisions made by a man I hardly know, he takes attendance. His voice fades, becoming an underwater echo in my tired ears, until he gets to my name. Then it rings loud and clear. “Hunter, Lacey.” My name on his lips sparks something. Just a flash of the ghost of a memory, the kind that slips further away the more you try to chase it. “Lacey Hunter,” he says again. “Lacey.” “I don’t want you, Lacey,” the ghost-memory whispers in my mind. “Jeremy?” The room erupts in snickers and under-the-breath laughter, and I cringe when I realize what I said. What the hell is wrong with me that I can’t manage my own mouth? Professor Ryan freezes. His lips form a tight line, and all color leaves his cheeks. Funny, because I’m pretty sure my cheeks are bright red. But in the time it takes me to blink, his features shift from shock to boredom. “Ms. Hunter, I’m afraid I’m not cool enough to allow my students to call me by my first name. In class, let’s keep it formal, shall we?”

Exclusive Excerpt:

Suddenly, being alone with Nick in the dojo has me nervous. I’m shifting my weight from foot to foot and not completely sure what to do with my hands. “Hey,” he finally says, offering me a small smile. “Hi.” “You ready?” “As I’ll ever be,” I grumble, not really sure if I can do this. Or if I should. No, I definitely should. After what happened last week, a woman should know a few basic self-defense moves. Nick heads over to the bench and unties his belt, dropping it on the bench beside my bag. Then, he strips off his white jacket. My jaw hits the floor. Unlike our time on the boat Monday, where he wasn’t wearing a shirt, this time he’s wearing a white tank top underneath, and if it’s possible, I think it makes him hotter. It hugs his very hard, very muscular upper body in a way that I’ve only read about in books. (Or saw one time when Linkin stripped for my sister, Lexi.) His shoulders…my word, his shoulders. The definition and muscles are like a work of art. Nick turns back to face me. “Is this okay? It’s hot.” Yep. Definitely hot. “Umm, sure. Whatever. Fine.” I know I try to sound casual, but really, it just comes out like a bumbling, blubbering teenager. “Good. Now come here,” he instructs, and the tone goes straight to the apex of my legs (which are practically shaking, by the way). Why does it sound dirty? “I’m going to show you just a few moves to help you escape an assailant. The first is an open hand strike. You’re going to use the heel of your hand to strike some of your assailant’s most sensitive areas,” he teaches, demonstrating the move. “Aim for the eyes, nose, mouth, or neck.” He stands in front of me and holds my hand, positioning it and showing me the correct ways to execute. “Here,” he adds, moving my hand to his face. I can feel his breath on the palm of my hand as I slowly shadow his movements, practicing without actually striking him. “Good. Now, if he comes at you from behind, your elbow is a valuable weapon. It’s hard, and when thrust into his face, neck, or stomach, you could definitely buy some precious time to get away.” He moves behind me and I immediately thrust upward with my elbow. He easily dodges the blow, as mortification tinges my cheeks. “Oh my God, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to try to hit you, it just…was a reflex,” I insist. “You’re fine,” he chuckles. “It’s good for you to actually practice the moves. Well, except this next one. No need to practice the knee to the groin. Just know it’s one of the most effective ways to disarm an assailant. If done right, your perp will be lying on the ground, crying for his mommy while you run away,” Nick teases, holding his hand over his…area. Of course, my eyes drop down. Why wouldn’t they? He was just referring to someone’s…package. “Yeah, no need to practice that,” I quickly reply, again a blush burning my neck and cheeks. Is it hot in here? “Let’s go over a few ways to block a punch or slap,” he says, showing me a few techniques using my arms and hands, before finally demonstrating what to do if the assailant gets me down on the ground. Yep, I’ve officially lost my mind. I’m practically rolling around on the mat with Nick, who is trying to teach me moves that might one day save my life. And all I can think about is the way his arms feel when they wrap around me or the way his package brushes up against my thigh, not once, but five times. Five. Yes, I counted. “Okay, that’s the basics. I want to do a few of them in a real-life situation. Stand over there, and I’ll come at you. I want you to take me down.” “Wait, what? I can’t take you down. You’re…big.” And, cue the blush… Nick chuckles. “I’ll be okay, honey. Promise.” Then he winks at me, and my entire body seems to catch fire. “Ready?” No. I’m definitely not ready for this.

Release Launch: BILLIONAIRE UNCHALLENGED: CARTER by J.S. Scott!

What happens when you're instantly drawn and inexplicably attracted to a man you haven't really met? Me? Well, I left a party like my butt was on fire when it happened to me. Arrogant, wealthy and physically perfect men were nothing but trouble, even if I was mesmerized by a man with all of those attributes. Unfortunately, we met again--in person this time-- when I literally collided with Carter Lawson in the flesh several days later, and discovered he was a man I just couldn't stay away from, no matter how much I tried. He felt the same attraction, and was determined to make it impossible for me not to see him. My body craved him, and as I got to know the real man behind the jaded billionaire, womanizer facade, I was surprised to discover that I actually liked him. He's the quintessential alpha male that I normally hate, but there's something I see in him that nobody else does, a pain I recognize in his glacier-like eyes--because I'm just like him. Both of us are frauds I want to crack him like an egg, and see what's inside, but there's no way I want him to do the same thing to me. On the surface, I'm a successful supermodel with a great career. Inside, I'm someone else, a woman that nobody sees--until Carter slowly breaks through my defensive walls as well as he satisfies my body, starting to open wounds that have never really healed. But there's only so much I can let Carter see. Revealing everything could ruin my entire life and the career I'd worked so hard to build. So why was it so hard to lie to Carter like I'd been doing with everyone else my entire life?

I wanted the blonde. I have a bad habit of always being attracted to women who are unavailable. Emotionally unavailable. I don’t know why I do that or what it is. If it’s just as simple as wanting what I can’t have, or some deep-seated bullshit about needing to win because I’m one of five kids from a family that was the town joke. It’s also a protective measure because I’m not parading a bunch of women through my son’s life. I keep it casual. But I could do that with unattached women too, though probably not as easily. So mostly I think it’s just because I’m an asshole. Whatever the reasons, it had gotten me into trouble in the past, and as I watched the rich blonde, Bella Bigelow, stumble up to the bar totally drunk on Friday night, I knew I was doing it again. Chasing trouble. I had met her once before and I had thought she was fucking gorgeous. All long legs and tan skin and juicy tits. A perfect face with a lean nose and plump lips that I wanted to suck on. Her sister was fucking my twin brother. But her sister wasn’t engaged to be married. She was. “What can I get you, Bella?” I asked, leaning on my elbows on the bar top so I would be closer to her. She smelled like a rich girl. All lotions and perfume and expensive clothes. It was amazing to me that someone could smell like money, but she did. Being a bartender in a tourist town on the coast of Maine, I had seen my fair share of rich girls up from Boston. This one shouldn’t be any different. And yet, for some reason she intrigued me. “A vodka cranberry,” she said, sounding a little defiant and more than a little drunk. This was her bachelorette party, and apparently she was taking the last-week-of-freedom crap all very seriously. The first time I had met her she had been sweet and polite. Now she was loud and demanding. “Sure.” I lifted up a glass and poured vodka in it, reminding myself that while I liked unavailable girls, I didn’t like drunk girls. Not in bed anyway. Too sloppy, too limp. I liked naughty girls who dove into misbehaving with their full wits about them. And their mouths open. Drunk girls gave the worst blow jobs. It was a proven fact. “Here you go.” After squirting in the cranberry juice, I slid the glass to her. “Seven bucks.” “Put it on my tab.” She flicked her long hair over her shoulder and turned to go. “You closed out your tab,” I reminded her. “Last round.” She paused and frowned at me. “Then why do you still have my credit card?” “I don’t.” Her platinum express credit card that read Bradley Alexander, presumably belonging to the rich fiancĂ©, had been returned to her at least fifteen minutes earlier. “I gave it back to you.” “No, you didn’t.” Now she just sounded belligerent. “What are you trying to pull? Are you trying to steal my credit card?” That pissed me off. “No. I am not trying to steal your credit card. I gave it back to you. Check your purse.” “I don’t have a purse.” “Well, it had to appear from somewhere,” I drawled, using my typical charming voice, not wanting her to see that inside I was seething. My whole life people had been accusing me of shit just because I was a Jordan brother and my father was a thief and a career criminal. I resented the fucking hell out of it. “Maybe you pulled it out of your tight little ass.” Her jaw dropped. She looked outraged. Yet . . . I knew she found me attractive. I had been noticing her giving me signals all night. She gave me sidelong glances. Her eyelashes batted. She licked her lips. I don’t think she even knew she was doing it, but her body language said she was curious about me. About me in her. She took a huge gulp of her drink then shook her finger at me. “You can’t talk to me like that.” “And you can’t steal that drink,” I said mildly. “Someone has to pay for it, and it’s not going to be me.” “Put it on my tab,” she said. “God, you’re such a local loser.” There are a lot of things she could have said that wouldn’t have bothered me. But that . . . that got under my skin. It was an old wound and she had just dashed salt on it with her pretentious stare and cutting words. She stole the drink, whether she realized it or not. I had to assume she was too drunk to know where her credit card was and I could have let that slide. But once she purposely insulted me, I knew I wasn’t going to do the right thing. Nope. I wanted to fuck her. And I was going to make her want to fuck me. “How about this drink is on me,” I said. “By the way, congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I wish you a very long life of happiness with your groom.” Bella stopped and turned, a troubled look darting across her face briefly. She was wearing a romper with silky straps and a low V-cut in the front. Her hand fluttered over her exposed skin. “Are you making fun of me?” she asked. I shook my head. “No. Just thinking your fiancĂ© is one lucky motherfucker that he gets to make love to you every night.” She looked shocked. And aroused. Her chest was heaving. I could see her nipples through the thin fabric. She saw my eyes drop. But she didn’t say a word. She just clutched her drink and disappeared into the crowd, walking very fast. I smiled as I adjusted my now hard cock behind the bar. I gave it four days before she was willing to fuck me. Five, tops.

New Release: LOVE ONLINE by Penelope Ward!

fullsizeoutput_68
A Standalone Contemporary Romance Novel
By: NY Times, USA Today, and #1 Wall Street Journal Best Selling Author, Penelope Ward

LOVE ONLINE LIVE NOW

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy STANDALONE novel.

We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod” and she was “Montana,” but of course, those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind.

Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape—my sanctuary.

Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out.

From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed.

She was an addiction.

At first, we knew nothing about each other’s real identities…and she was adamant that we keep things that way. Anonymity had no effect on our unstoppable chemistry, though. If anything, it allowed us to open up even more in ways we may not have otherwise.

Eden was funny, intelligent, gorgeous—everything I’d ever wanted in a woman.

But I couldn’t really have her.

I had accepted things would have to stay the way they were—until the day I found a clue that led me straight to her.

So I took a chance.

And that was when our love story really began.
