Review: ROYALLY YOURS by Emma Chase!

My Review: Lucky me, I got to read two AMAZING books in a row! First Secrets by Aleatha Romig, and now the newest Royal book by Emma Chase! This may be book four in the series, but it's actually a prequel - the infamous grandmother, Lenora - this is how she became Queen of Wessco. And she's not a pushover that is going to let a man take over her country and her crown. I loved her sass in the first three books, but she's in her ultimate element here.

This book focuses mostly on Lenora, since the romance element doesn't really come in until the halfway mark. But seeing these two grow towards each other, making a match made out of necessity so much more than it could be. Once again, Emma Chase wrote an AWESOME story, and I will not be able to choose my favorite of this series. They're all my favorite! And these are definitely ones I'll have to be buying in print for my keeper shelf.

Cover Lovin': How can I not love that?!

Recommendation: This is technically a prequel, so it can be read as a stand alone.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!! Emma Chase blows me away with each Royal book. Every one is better than the last, and becomes my new favorite!

Princess Lenora Celeste Beatrice Arabella Pembrook had an unusual childhood. She was raised to be a Queen—the first Queen of Wessco. It’s a big deal. When she’s crowned at just nineteen, the beautiful young monarch is prepared to rule. She’s charming, clever, confident and cunning. What she isn’t…is married. It’s her advising council’s first priority. It’s what Parliament is demanding, and what her people want. Lenora has no desire to tie herself to a man—particularly one who only wants her for her crown. But compromises must be made and royals must do their duty. Even Queens. Especially them. ** Years ago, Edward Langdon Richard Dorian Rourke, walked away from his title and country. Now he’s an adventurer—climbing mountains, exploring jungles, going wherever he wants, when he wants—until family devotion brings him home. And a sacred promise keeps him there. To Edward, the haughty, guarded little Queen is intriguing, infuriating…and utterly captivating. Wanting her just might drive him mad—or become his greatest adventure. ** Within the cold, stone walls of the royal palace—mistrust threatens, wills clash, and an undeniable, passionate love will change the future of the monarchy forever. Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story. This is theirs.

By Lindsay Emory

Book description
Princess Theodora Isabella Victoria of Drieden of the Royal House Laurent is so over this princess thing.

After her fiancé jilted her on their wedding day, she’s finally back home after spending four months in exile—aka it’s back to press conferences, public appearances, and putting on a show for the Driedish nation as the perfect princess they expect her to be. But Thea’s sick of duty. After all, that’s what got her into this mess in the first place.

So when she sneaks out of the palace and meets a sexy Scot named Nick in a local bar, she relishes the chance to be a normal woman for a change. But just as she thinks she’s found her Prince Charming for the night, he reveals his intentions are less than honorable: he’s the brother of her former fiancé, a British spy, and he’s not above blackmail. As Thea reluctantly joins forces with Nick to find out what happened the day her fiancé disappeared, together they discover a secret that could destroy a centuries-old monarchy and change life as they know it.

Excerpt
Later, I would look back on this moment and wonder why I hadn’t simply popped the sleeping pill and crawled back into my gilded four-poster bed, the same one that my grandmother and great-grandmother had slept in before their ascendancies to the throne.
I’ll never know what made me change into street clothes, pull my hair into a bun, and slip on running shoes. But that’s exactly what I did.
I knew the covert ways out of the palace like the back of my hand. Part of it was due to a natural gift for observation and investigation; part of it was thanks to my formal education. It had been impressed on me by my tutors, secretaries, and Big Gran herself that a good princess should learn everything about her country.
That included secret ways out of the palace. This wasn’t the first time I’d slipped out undetected. That had been when I was a teenager, a university student. There were things I’d wanted to do, places I’d wanted to go, people I’d wanted to see without my official security detail getting involved. For years, it hadn’t been a problem. Drieden is a small country and the monarchy can still be informal if it wishes. My uncle John, the Duke of Falender, works as a banker in the financial district. My brother serves in the armed forces. Until my engagement, I produced documentary films. With a discreet and small security presence, my family has been able to keep up the pretense that we’re normal folk who just happen to live in that big old house on the hill.
With my recent notoriety, though, and my resulting cloistering in the palace and assorted hideaways, I hadn’t been outside royal boundaries in over three months.
And sometimes a girl just needed a change of scenery.
My feet flew over the carpet, down the southwest stairwell, across the landing, into the upper gallery through a service entrance, then down another set of stairs that led into the herb garden, which was next to the kitchens with their loading dock and abandoned at this time of night.
Just like that, I was outside in a small courtyard. There was a guardhouse at the bottom of the cobblestone drive, but I pulled up the hood of my jacket and hopped into a nearby white Fiat with plates that matched the keys I had snagged from the loading dock bay.
The gates opened swiftly (as they should for an official palace vehicle) and I drove two hundred meters and . . .
I had no idea where I was going.
To the lights?
Why?
Because the lights were pretty?
Was I insane?
Probably. Now I was talking to myself. Just like Prince Karl the Holy when he believed a trout told him to invade France.
My foot pressed the gas pedal, indicating that I was, in fact, insane. Sleep deprivation had sucked all the common sense out of my head.
But I kept driving. Instinct and a memory pulled me forward.
There had been a night, two years ago, right after I had started dating Christian. I had gotten a call from him; he had flown to Drieden to surprise me. “Come see me,” he had urged. He had given me the name of a bar where I was to meet him in an hour. And like tonight, I had managed to slip out of the palace completely undetected.
Romantic, right?
Without being aware of my destination, I now suddenly found myself parked outside that same bar. It seemed just as I remembered it. A cocktail lounge in the theater district, its raucous crowd was decidedly different from the posh, upper-crust circle Christian usually ran with. As soon as I walked into the disorienting mix of shadow and neon, I remembered that I hadn’t brought any money or identification. Another sign of my deteriorating mental state. Still, I took a seat at a table covered with chipped red paint. After all, the point of this excursion wasn’t to drink. If I’d wanted to get drunk, the palace had vast cellars full of very expensive spirits at my disposal. If I’d wanted to lose myself, I would have just taken the damn sleeping pill.
The point of this trip was . . .
I had no idea.
Now I closed my eyes.
I saw Christian, as he was the night I met him here. His longish blond hair curled around his collar. His skin still tan from the ski season. Was this what I wanted? To see Christian again? Was that why I came here?
“Excuse me. Is this seat taken?”
A deep voice. A Scottish accent. Christian?

My Review: This is a different take on the classic second chance romance - and considering my recent review history, I'm sure my readers know how much I enjoy those! How is it different, you may ask? Well, these two are already married, but separated! Honestly, this reminded me of a few Harlequin Presents books I read back in the day, and I think that's why I got so into it.

This is a fast read, and what holds it back from getting a higher rating is the pacing. It just seemed like everything happened too quickly. Just because a book is shorter doesn't mean it has to lose any quality when it comes to characterization and pacing. Overall, I enjoyed this, and I'd definitely read more by this author. And it's definitely worth a read if you're looking for something different.

Cover Lovin': Stylishly classic.

Recommendation: Can be read on its own.

Final Rating: THREE AND A HALF out of FIVE stars (3.5/5)!! A different, but no less exciting take on a second chance romance!

My Review: This was an adorable story. Falling in love with royalty has started to come back around, and I am all for that - it's also on the top of my list of favorite romance tropes. I blame it on my teenaged love of The Princess Diaries, which I'll admit to never having got over... But enough about that, back to this book! Sage and Everly are just so sweet together.

Author Lauren Runow definitely has a good writing style. This is the first I've heard of this author, but I would for sure check out more. There were quite a few cliches in this book, which made it a little predictable at first. But by the end, it took on a unique, original tone, and I was really getting into it. If you want a classic contemporary romance, this would be a great choice.

Cover Lovin': Two thumbs up.

Recommendation: Stand-alone, no prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating:  THREE out of FIVE stars (3/5)! A little cliched, but definitely fun.

Happy Reading!

Review: ROYALLY ENDOWED by Emma Chase!

My Review: Excuse me, I have to go add this book to my all time favorites shelf. And I have to add Logan to my book boyfriend list, right next to Nicholas and Henry. I loved the first book in this series, and then book two came along, and I was sure I loved that one more. And now here's book three, threatening to take over... But none of them will really win because I love all three equally. This series is absolutely fantastic, and has be beyond addicted. I already had to go back and reread a few of my favorite scenes.

Emma Chase knows how go craft a fun, but meaningful story. As lighthearted as this book can get, it never feels frivolous. Sure, I saw the ending coming from a mile away, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the ride there, or that I wasn't worried about exactly how it would play out. After three books, these characters mean something to me. This author has made me fall in love with a fictional royal family, and I'm a little sad they aren't real, if I'm being honest.

This story takes place over years, and you can really feel the connection grow over time. The author does an extremely good job juggling the huge time jumps along with budding attraction. Moving forward months, or years, at a time doesn't detract from the romance itself, and actually feels natural rather than rushed. Also, I'm a huge sucker for a good family dynamic, and I get that in spades in this book. They're a close knit family, protective of each other, and I love that to pieces.

Cover Lovin': Yum, for sure. And fits wonderfully with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: This can technically work as a stand alone, but I suggest picking up the rest of the series as well since all the characters are so closely involved with one another.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!! Another amazing book by Emma Chase. It has well earned it's place on my favorites shelf, and I can't wait to revisit the whole series. I feel a massive reread coming on.

Happy Reading!

Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, protective royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go. *** Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

Ellie But then the mood shifts, as if the air becomes thicker, weighted, more . . . sultry. Because slowly, Logan sinks down to one knee in front of me—looking in my eyes the whole time. In this position, I could touch his shoulders, comb my fingers through his thick, dark hair. He’s the perfect height for me to bend down and kiss his mouth—the perfect height for him to kiss me back . . . in a lot of places. My breath hitches. And I wonder he feels it too. There’s a sound of tearing Velcro, and Logan takes something off his ankle—a holster, with a small silver knife, about three inches long. “Keep this on you all the time,” he says seriously. “Just in case. If you wear a skirt, the strap will fit around your thigh.” And I almost laugh. Most girls get a ring from a guy on his knees. I get a murder weapon. But still, it makes me feel safe . . . watched over. Like I’m something precious that deserves to be protected. I take the knife from him, testing the surprisingly solid, heavy weight of it in my hand. I press my index finger to the tip. Logan grabs my wrist tightly. “Careful. It’s sharp.” There’s a small, painless nick, a tiny bead of blood, so I put my finger in my mouth, sucking. And Logan’s watching me again. Watching my mouth. His chest seems to rise just a little faster, and his throat ripples when he swallows. He bends his head, curves his strong back, and then I feel his hands on my ankle, securing the strap. His touch is warm and self-assured. It’s the way he always moves—confident and experienced. Logan knows his body and he knows how to use it, in every way possible. I almost moan. The sound is in the back of my throat, but I keep it trapped. I never knew the ankle was an erogenous zone, but it sure as hell is now. A hot pulse of pleasure streaks from Logan’s fingers on my bare skin, up my thigh, between my legs. And I throb there, growing swollen and heavy as he keeps his hands on me. Can he tell? Does he know? He’s so aware of everything, always so attuned, I wonder if he can sense my arousal . . . feel it in the air that clings between us.       Emma Chase is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the hot and hilarious Tangled series and The Legal Briefs series. Review: ARRANGED by Lexi Blake!

ARRANGED - Tour banner
My Review: This book had several things going for it - arranged marriage, royalty, BDSM, and Lexi Blake. All things I greatly enjoy. And I'll admit, when I signed up to review this, I didn't look too far beyond Lexi Blake and that this was a novella in the Masters and Mercenaries series - I did not pay attention enough to realize that this is a bit different of a BDSM dynamic than I usually read. In this book, the female is the top, and the male the submissive. I'll admit, I was a little unsure when I started reading this. Could I get in to something that's out of my usual comfort zone? And I'm here to tell you - yes, I definitely can. And that's because Lexi Blake knows how to write some seriously hot scenes, and some amazing love stories.

Arranged made me swoon, made me so hot my glasses fogged up, and even made my chuckle more than a few times. Day had a dry wit that came through a few times in the book, and even Kash had a sort of ironic sense of humor that really worked for me. And these two personalities really worked together, as well. I've read plenty of romances where, even though the characters got a HEA, they didn't really feel like they meshed well - but that's never an issue with a Lexi Blake book, and Arranged is no different. I'm not so familiar with the Masters and Mercenaries series that I was aware of Kash's existence before this book (I've only read a couple of the books) - but I will definitely have to check out his previous appearance(s) so I can see how he played as a secondary character.

Cover Lovin': Fits perfectly with the rest of the 1001 Dark Nights series, and my, that cover model is gorgeous.

Recommendation: This can be read without much prior knowledge of the Masters and Mercenaries series - but some background helps.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! Another awesome book by Lexi Blake, and definitely worth a read!

Happy Reading!

“Are we a happy couple?” “I don’t think we’ve had time enough to be sure of that yet, but I know we were once.” She’d thought it through in a way she never had before. She had a much different view of those months with Kash in England. “You were courting me back then, weren’t you? You wanted me to be your girlfriend.” He sat down in the plush chair that dominated the sitting area portion of his bedroom. Normally they stayed in the living room, but he’d wanted more privacy. This was the only place in his suite that wasn’t covered by CCTV, the only place where they could truly be alone. Everything about the space was masculine and decadent, including the man himself. With his hair disheveled and his chest on display, it wasn’t hard at all to see him as a primal male. One she’d dearly enjoy taming. “I don’t think you realized it at the time.” She was willing to admit her faults. “I didn’t. I had my nose in a book most of the time back then and I had little experience with men. No, I had no idea you were interested in me beyond copying my notes from class when you slept in.” “It would surprise you to know that I often thought about sleeping in with you.” His voice had gone low and gentle. “I was crazy about you back then, Day. I find myself in the same position today, but I don’t want to scare you. I know you think we should take this slow and I will honor your wishes, but I want this marriage to work. You see me as a playboy, but I don’t want to be some forty-plus player who trades on his money to keep young girls around him. I think it might be time for me to find out if I can be the king my father would have wanted me to be.” It was all she needed to hear. If he wanted to try, she was ready. Despite his reputation, she’d fallen right back into a peaceful friendship with him. He’d been the old Kash, supporting her when she needed it. He’d asked her questions about her work with the education department and then gave her ideas on how to handle the parliament. He hadn’t told her what she should do. He’d suggested, debated. “I think you’ll find me less averse to giving this marriage a real try than you think. I was planning on talking to you about using the Palm Ceremony to begin to explore what we could be as a couple.” He frowned. “I’m not sure what that means. You want to talk? Or have counseling? Because that sounds terrible.” “I was talking about sex, Kashmir. I thought we could use this time to see if we’re sexually compatible.” He popped up out of his chair like an eager puppy. “Yes. I think that is a brilliant idea. We should start now. Don’t worry. I intend to be gentle with you.” She didn’t move at all. “Like you are with your lovely flowers?” “Women deserve a man’s care,” he said quietly. “Day, I can’t erase my past.” “I don’t want you to.” He misunderstood her problems with his statement. “But I do need you to understand that I’m not one of those flowers. I’m not here to sit at your side and bat my eyelashes in the hopes that you’ll buy something for me. I don’t work like that. I don’t care about your money.” “That is easy for you to say. You’re about to have access to all of it, aren’t you?” He had a point. “Even if I wasn’t, that wouldn’t be why I would want you, Kash. Sit down. We have some things to talk about before we get started. Come here close to me.” He moved to the chaise she was sitting on, lowering himself down with a sullen frown. “I knew there would be talking.” She was fairly certain his lovely flowers did very little talking, but he would get used to it. “Why did you want me back then?” “I liked you. I liked talking to you. I liked being around you. I rather liked who I was when I was around you.” His expression softened. “I don’t think you knew how alluring you were to someone like me. You didn’t understand how beautiful you were, so you didn’t use it against me. Most women do.” “Well, that happens when you surround yourself with women who are mostly valued for their looks. I don’t blame them. They’ve been told their beauty is the only thing worthy about them. If you want to meet women who don’t feel that way, you should probably expand out of models and actresses.” “Well, you would be surprised how many gorgeous, sexy physicists turn me down because I’m not smart enough for them.”

Review: ROYALLY MATCHED by Emma Chase!

RM-FB-on-sale-5
My Review: I knew after reading the first book of that this author would not disappoint when Henry got his turn. I laughed, I sniffled, I considered hugging my e-reader but realized that might be uncomfortable for all involved.. basically, I loved this. You know you have a good book when you forget you're reading, that the story isn't actually playing out in front of you, and time just slips away.

Typically, when I read a romance, I find myself either falling for the hero, or I see myself in the heroine. Whichever I go with, there's usually a clear winner - I end up liking one more than the other. But not here, I am in love with Henry and Sarah both. I had to know how their story would end, but I almost didn't finish this book. I didn't want to... I wasn't ready to say goodbye. So if you want a fantastic contemporary romance, look no further. Both of these books have been top notch, and I highly recommend them.

Cover Lovin': Oh my! Very yum.

Recommendation:  You'll want to read book one if you haven't already. Henry's life is vastly changed by the results of the first book.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!! I can't say enough how much I loved this. I blushed, I laughed, I fell in love.

Happy Reading!

Royally-Matched-3D-bookSome men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap. He’s not handling it well. Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own: Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart. The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor. But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight. As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Review: ROYALLY SCREWED by Emma Chase

Release Date: October 18th, 2016

Type: Contemporary, Romance, Series-yet-standalone, Royals

My Review: Who doesn't love a hot prince? Especially one who doesn't mind saying all the wonderful sexual innuendos that pop into his head. I loved Nicholas - he had a good sense of humor, and he was a legitimately good guy. But boy did it break my heart when he screwed up - and oh man, he ROYALLY screwed up (see what I did there?).

This is a perfect start to a fantastic series. I am practically drooling when I think about the second book. I'm not sure how Emma Chase expects us to last. And if royals are the next hot romance trend - sign me up!

Cover Lovin': Two thumbs up!

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars!!! I couldn't put it down, love love love!

Happy Reading!

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants. *** Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be. There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner. But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it. *** Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King... or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

rs-fb-author-ad-1   She’s even lovelier than I remembered, than I dreamed. Delicate midnight tendrils frame a face that belongs in a museum—with stunning dark sapphire eyes that should be commemorated in vibrant oils and soft watercolors. If Helen launched a thousand ships, this girl could raise a thousand hard-ons. She’s prettily made, the top of her head coming only to my chin, but fantastically curvy. Great full tits that strain the buttons of a wrinkled white blouse, shapely hips in a black skirt tapering to a tiny waist I could wrap my hands around and toned legs encased in sheer black tights finish off the whole package very nicely. An unfamiliar anxiousness fizzes like soda in my gut. “The door was open,” I explain. “It’s broken.” Logan flicks at the lock. Security is his life, so a broken lock would annoy him like a puzzle with the final piece missing. “What do you want?” She has no idea who I am. It’s in the defensive way she holds herself and the accusatory note in her voice. Some women try to pretend they don’t recognize me, but I can always tell. Her ignorance is rather…thrilling. There are no expectations, no hidden agendas, no reasons to pretend—what she sees is what she gets. And all she sees is me. My throat is suddenly a barren wasteland. I swallow, but it’s difficult. “Well, he’s desperate for some pie.” I hook my thumb at Simon. “And I…wanted to apologize for the other evening. I don’t normally act that way. I was on a bit of bender…” “In my experience, people don’t do things when they’re drunk that they wouldn’t do normally.” “No, you’re right. I would’ve thought all those things, but I never would’ve said them out loud.” I move closer, slowly. “And if I’d been sober…my opening bid would’ve been much higher.” “She crosses her arms. “Are you trying to be cute?” “No. I don’t have to try…it just sort of happens.”     rs-fb-author-ad-2     Emma Chase is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the hot and hilarious Tangled series and The Legal Briefs series.
