Review: UNBOUND by Lauren Hawkeye!

My Review: I'm a bit torn about this serial. On one hand, I'm let down because I thought the synopsis for this series was awesome and I was eager to read about a female archaeologist. Unfortunately, it seems like the actual plot was barely an afterthought. On the other hand, the sex scenes were super hot. I read some raunchy things on an every day basis, and even I was blushing a little.

It took me some time to try and put into words exactly what didn't work for me about this book, and I think I finally figured it out. It felt disjointed, like it was trying to be two different things at once, and ended up failing at both. The plot of the threats against Cari, and the need for a bodyguard to ensure her safety is interesting - but it falls by the wayside when it comes to all the sex Cari and Jasper are having. At the same time, the erotic scenes are super hot, and then it feels like an abrupt turn when the suspense angle comes back in. I think this book needed to either put more focus on the story line itself, or go all the way to the other end and just focus on the sex.

Cover Lovin': All the covers for this serial work well together.

Recommendation: Each book picks up where the previous one left off, so they must be read in order.

Final Rating: TWO POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (2.5/5). This serial felt a little too bipolar. Trying to be two different things at once meant it unfortunately didn't come close to succeeding at either aim. Definitely hot though, whew. *fans self*

About the Uninhibited! Series

Celebrity archaeologist Cari Dunn is so over the Georgia heat, the red tape at her dig site, and the threatening messages left on her motel door. She just wants to dig, and the network just wants to keep her safe—with a bodyguard. She can’t complain. Jasper Benjamin radiates raw masculinity that penetrates her to the core and ignites passion she’s never felt. Too bad for him, she's not going to be easy to handle.
Lusting after the bodyguard shouldn’t be so tempting, especially when her life is on the line.

About Lauren Hawkeye

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!

Get a Sneak Peek at UNTAMED:

“You know what Krav Maga is, and you let me spar with my imaginary friend for the last hour?” I let myself go limp, become dead weight, expecting the move to surprise him enough to drop me. It did not. Instead he rolled with me until his back was against the parched grass, and I was seated astride him. I should have been able to get free since I was on top, but I couldn’t rid myself of his steely grip on my arms, and I knew he’d chosen that position deliberately, to prove his point. Damn it. This was not the result I wanted—proof that I did, in fact, need him. “I get it. You’re stronger than me. Now let me up.” Temper-tears stung the back of my throat. Convincing my stepfather that I was going to go to university, convincing my colleagues that I wouldn’t have a nervous breakdown just because some idiot spray painted my door—why did I always have to fight just to live my life the way I wanted? Instead of gloating and letting me up, my newly vindicated bodyguard tugged me down so that I lay at on top of him. I surprised myself by wanting, suddenly, to bury my face in his T-shirt and just let go for a moment, rather than fight this new reality—that I might actually be in danger. “I’m not trying to prove that I’m stronger than you. I don’t have to. It’s obvious.” The urge to snuggle passed as I cranked my head around with a glare. Way to make me feel worse, asshole. Krav maga is a discipline, and the first rule is to avoid confrontation. You know this. So why the hell are you out here, alone, after dusk?” His words were tinted with frustration, the first hint of emotion he’d shown, and I was surprised enough to stop tugging at his grip. When I did, he let go, and I pushed myself up on his massive chest but didn’t roll off. “You’re serious.” I waited for the punchline, but it didn’t come. Instead, he fixed me with a stare from those pale eyes, and a shiver skittered down my spine. “You don’t actually think someone is out to get me, do you? It’s a prank, right?” “Let’s look at it this way.” Propping himself up on an elbow brought that rock-solid stomach of his in contact with my hip. I thought he would push me away, but he didn’t, seeming completely unaffected by the closeness of our bodies. That stung, because I sure as hell wasn’t. This close, I could feel the warmth of his skin, smell a hint of soap, and it invaded my senses slowly, lazily, like honey melting on a summer day. “You’re an archaeologist. You search for physical proof of things before you build theories on top of that evidence. Would that be an accurate explanation?” “Yes.” Narrowing my eyes, I tried to drag my attention from the scent of his skin to what he was saying. My mouth was dry, and the space between my legs that pressed into the cradle between his hip was warm and starting to ache. He gave no indication that our position was getting him all hot and bothered, too. None. How was I the only one feeling this? “You have your physical proof. Harassment in the form of vandalism, and the more direct threat with the poster mailed to Margot.” With the sort of ab crunch I couldn’t do even on my best day, he hauled himself into a sitting position, still without pushing me off his lap. “Sure, it could be that someone just wants to mess with your head. But what if it’s more? Wouldn’t you rather be prepared?” “I like being prepared.” I ran my tongue over my lips and swallowed. Holy mixed messages. His words, his demeanor—he was still fully in G.I. Joe mode, but still, he hadn’t pushed me away. “So how is this going to work? You just follow me around all the time?” A thought occurred to me. “You’re not expecting to stay in the same room, are you?” Looking at him, though, I felt that same strange pull that I had in Margot’s suite. I might not actually mind having him that close. What was wrong with me? Margot and the network had been right—I was absolutely in danger. But the threat? It was him.

Review: HITCHED PART 2 by Kendall Ryan

Release Date: July 19th, 2016

My Review: I'm getting pretty frustrated with Olivia, all. Noah is such a good guy, he's done so much to make her as comfortable with the awkward situation as possible. He's tried to show her that he is a good guy. He's talked to her friend to find out what she likes, he dropped everything to help her when her ex-boyfriend threatened her with blackmail. And yet, Olivia acts like he's untrustworthy, or making a play, at every turn. Noah is so book-boyfriend-worthy that it makes me sad to see how hard he's working, and yet how much he's mistrusted.

Of course, then he goes and does that stupid thing right at the end. Oh man. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but I've never wanted to whack someone upside the head more than I did in that moment. I like Noah and Olivia. They make me frustrated sometimes, but I like them. And I like them together - I just need Noah to use his brain a little more, and Olivia to shut hers off now and again. But you can already see them moving towards the Happily Ever After that they both deserve.

Cover Lovin': Fits perfectly with part one.

Recommendation: This is a direct sequel, so you're definitely going to need to read the first book.

Final Rating: THREE AND A HALF out of FIVE stars (3.5/5). I'm really enjoying this story overall, but this second part made me frustrated more than anything.

I can't be stupid enough to fall for this sexy playboy's charm or advances. I have to be strong, even if he is my husband. Except he has a huge cock with an even bigger ego, and his main goal in life seems to be getting me to stroke both. The arrogant bastard is like sweet, sugary candy for my libido. I know he’s bad for me. But I want to devour every wicked inch of him. With his sexual prowess and experience, I know he’ll be explosive in the bedroom. And since we’re stuck together for the foreseeable future—keeping up this marriage charade long enough to turn the company profitable again—I deserve something to look forward to at the end of a long workday, right? What could one little taste hurt? This is volume 2 in the Imperfect Love series.

“What’s wrong?” I ask. “Just a little tight, is all.” I inhale through my nose. I have to shove the pregnancy stuff to the back corner of my brain. We’re a long way off from Olivia letting me pump her full of my semen anyhow, so why am I stressing about it now? The first step is showing her how compatible we can be. And that starts now. I smile at her. “Sit tight. I’ll be right back.” I grab a bottle of massage oil from the hall closet and return to the living room. The soft jazz music seems to float in the air, creating a pleasant buzz in the atmosphere. Olivia’s eyes widen when I rejoin her on the couch, but she doesn’t question me. “I’ll give you a massage,” I suggest. “Take off your sweatshirt.” Olivia flinches, chewing on her lip while she watches me. “But I’m not wearing anything underneath.” That’s the idea. “I promise not to look.” She hesitates for another second, then turns her back to me and pulls her shirt over her head, dropping it to the floor. The creamy canvas in front of me is one to be admired. The twin dimples in her lower back near the band of her leggings would make lesser men weep. I warm a few drops of oil between my palms and rest my hands on her stiff shoulders. “Relax. Okay?”

Review: PROTECT HER: Part One by Ivy Sinclair

Release Date: July 2nd, 2014

Type: Serial novel, Series, Book One, Part One, Demons, Paranormal Fiction, Paranormal Romance, Who knew necromancers could be hot?

About the Book: Get in. Get the job done. Get out. Get paid.
It’s a simple motto that I’ve lived by for the last five years. It’s kept me alive and made me rich.

There’s no love lost between me and the supernatural beings who walk the world beside us. But when it comes to being able to retrieve valuable information from the dead, Necromancer Riley Stone is the only game in town. They know it. I know it too, and that’s why my services aren’t cheap.

The archangel Benjamin hired me to find out why he has a new demon problem. Three demon interrogations in, and the only thing I know is that the demons are in hot pursuit of a nameless young woman. She’s here on Calamata Island, and the demon officials are willing to risk Benjamin’s wrath to grab her.

But I found her first, and she’s nothing like what I expected. In my line of work, you can’t afford to let anyone get too close. But there’s something about Paige Matthews that I can’t shake, and she needs my help. I won’t turn her over to Benjamin until I help her find out why the demons are after her.

So now I’ve got a demon problem, and I’m in way over my head. [Description from Goodreads.com]

My Review: I'm going to start off by saying this isn't the best book ever written. It is, however - a very interesting and entertaining read. And if I wasn't so busy with other review books at the moment, I would have one-clicked part two so hard. I read a lot of paranormal romance, and urban fantasy/science fiction, and this still managed to feel different and original. I'd love a little more depth to the demons and the world, but that's something that will come with time. We're jumping into the world just like Paige, but we get the benefit of Riley's knowledge as well.

I'd definitely say that this author, and this series, is one to keep an eye on. I can't wait to see where it goes, and I've already eyed Ivy Sinclair's back list of titles for future reads. Also, please allow me a moment to drool over the cover.

Cover Lovin': C'mon guys, you know what I"m going to say - this cover just does it for me. I love it!

Recommendation: Make sure you keep in mind that this is a serial novel, so don't expect any resolution to the plot. Be prepared to one-click part 2!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5). Great read! I liked the characters, and I like where this is going.

Make sure to get your copy of Protect Her part 1 from Amazon.com today - and check out Part 2 while you're at it!

Review: DOCTOR-PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY by Eme Strife

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Type: Serial Novel, Series, Book 1, New Adult, New Adult Romance, Contemporary, Contemporary Romance, Need Book 2 Asap

About the Book: Two very different people.
One scandalous proposition.
Endless possibilities...

***

I can't believe how different things are now; how complicated my life has become in such a short amount of time.

It was never supposed to be like this.

He's off limits.

He's always been off limits.

I keep telling myself that; that being here with him is not supposed to feel this good.
God, he's not supposed to feel this good.

I wonder what my life would have been like now if I had gone to the clinic on a different day, or if I had just insisted on going with the physician I was initially referred to.

Never in my life would I have thought that in the events that followed the beginning of a regular school week, a random checkup would end up spawning a highly angst-filled, incredibly confusing, and quickly-unfolding mess.

***

This story unfolds over multiple serials and this is the first book in the series.

Rated 17+
This series contains mature and adult content (nudity, graphic sex, and strong language).
Because of its explicit nature, it is intended for mature audiences only. Reader discretion is advised. [Description from Amazon.com]

My Review: I'm a New Adult junkie, I just can't get enough. Maybe because I'm a New Adult myself, and it's fun to read about characters that are near my own age. So of course I jumped on the chance to review this when the author asked. And I was glad I did! I had a great time reading "Doctor-Patient Confidentiality." I liked the characters - they felt real. And already, I could feel the zing between the main character and the hero.

"Doctor-Patient Confidentiality" is a serialized novel. So prepare yourself going in - this first book is actually just 1/5th of the story. That said, this story definitely has potential and will suck you right in. I read this all in one sitting, and no, not just because it was shot. I was enjoying myself while reading it. I will definitely be looking into the rest of the series. Can't wait!

Cover Lovin': What a tease this cover is! I know I would look into it if I saw this while browsing the store or Amazon.

Recommendation: For fans of steamy new adult contemporary romance. But be prepared to desperately need the next one!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5). Writing is excellent, the story had me hooked. I just wish there had been more!
