Type: Contemporary, series-yet-stand-alone, CEO meets Secretary
My Review: I will admit, I was nervous when I first started this book. Once we got past the prologue, Roman seemed like such a butthead. Yes, the prologue had me feeling sad for him, but as an adult, Roman grew into a grump. A bit like Ebenezer Scrooge when talking to his employees in the beginning of a Christmas Carol. And then he went out to a club, and the way he was acting... I started disliking him even more. So imagine my surprise when I started really liking him, only a few chapters later. Once he finally met someone that got under his skin, he opened up and I really liked what I saw.
When it comes to the rest of the story - I have to admit, the boss and secretary trope does it for me. Yes, I'm sure you're all sick of me liking almost every romance trope out there, but I can't help it. In real life, I'm sure I would never feel that way for a coworker, let alone a boss. But in fiction, it can - and does - work. And I love how author J.L. Berg plays this. Cara and Roman together just.. fit. It feels right. And I loved reading their scenes together.
Cover Lovin': Oh definitely! Two thumbs up, for sure.
Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary, though like me you'll probably want to check out Jude.
Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! Roman really grew on me, enough to make me want a Roman of my very own.

My name is Roman Cavenaugh and I’m kind of an asshole.
Running a company isn't easy, especially when everyone expects you to fail, so being a jerk? It comes with the territory.
I don't have time to mess around, and I sure as hell didn’t see her coming.
Cara Hamilton—she was supposed to be off limits…a temporary employee brought in during my assistant’s maternity leave.
But, in the blink of an eye, she became so much more.
An obsession I couldn’t shake.
So yeah, I may be an asshole, but now, I finally had a purpose, and soon, she would be mine.
All’s fair in love and war…
