ABOUT THE BOOK:

The most brazen terrorist attack in history. A country bent on revenge. A love affair cut short. A heart that never truly heals.

I knew on the day of the attack that our lives were changed forever. What I didn’t know then was that I’d never see John again after he deployed. One day he was living with me, sleeping next to me, making plans with me. The next day he was gone.
That was five years ago. The world has moved on from that awful day, but I’m stuck in my own personal hell, waiting for a man who may be dead for all I know. At my sister’s wedding, I meet Eric, the brother of the groom, and my heart comes alive once again.
The world is riveted by the capture of the terrorist mastermind, brought down by U.S. Special Forces in a daring raid. Now I am trapped between hoping I’ll hear from John and fearing what’ll become of my new life with Eric if I do.
From a New York Times bestselling author, Five Years Gone, a standalone contemporary, is an epic story of love, honor, duty, unbearable choices and impossible dilemmas.

Read this excerpt from Five Years Gone.
Prologue Ava We met in a bar, of all places, a dingy hole-in-the-wall favored by military members from the nearby Navy base in San Diego. I went with a friend from school who was interested in one of the military guys. Before that night, I’d never been there, and I’ve never been back. John was celebrating the promotion of one of his buddies. He crashed into me as I left the ladies’ room and kept me from falling by grabbing my arms to steady me. Just like in the movies, our eyes met, and my spine tingled with the kind of instantaneous awareness I’d only read about but never experienced personally. “I’m so sorry,” he said, gorgeous and fierce in his fatigues. I noticed gold on his collar, a hint of late-day scruff on his jaw and the name WEST in bold black letters on his chest. Intense electric-blue eyes made it impossible for me to look away, even when I was safely back on my feet. “Are you all right?” he asked. Realizing I’d been staring at him, I blinked and reluctantly broke the connection. “I… Yes, I’m fine. Thank you for the save.” And then he smiled, and the tingling began anew. “I’m John.” I shook his outstretched hand. “Ava.” Keeping his hold on my hand, he tipped his head. “You come here often?” “Never,” I said, laughing. “I’m a first-timer.” “What do you think so far?” “I wasn’t impressed until about thirty seconds ago.” As if he had all the time in the world to give me, he leaned against the wall. “Is that right? What happened thirty seconds ago?” I thought about taking back my hand but didn’t. “I was saved from certain disaster by a man in uniform.” “The guy in the uniform is the reason you needed saving in the first place, because he wasn’t watching where he was going. Least he can do is buy you a drink.” “I wouldn’t say no to that.” I was proud of my witty responses and got the feeling he could more than hold his own in the wittiness department. Across the crowded room, I noticed my friend talking to the guy she’d come to see, and her brows lifted in interest when she saw me with John. He guided me to the bar, placing a proprietary hand on my lower back, and told one of the guys to give me his stool. “Yes, sir.” The younger man bowed gallantly to me as he took his beer and moved along. “Do people always do what you say?” “If they know what’s good for them.” His teasing grin kept the comment from being overly cocky. “What can I get you?” Deciding to live dangerously for once, I asked for a cosmopolitan. “Go big or go home,” he said with admiration. “That’s my motto.” I was so full of shit. I wondered if he could tell I was all talk or what he’d think of me if he knew I usually err much closer to the side of caution than the wild side. I wondered if he could tell I was just barely old enough to drink. I’d turned twenty-one only six months earlier. When my cosmo and his Budweiser had been delivered, he offered a toast. “To new friends.” I touched my glass to his bottle. “To new friends.” “So, where’re you from, Ava?” “New York.” “I thought I heard New Yawk in your voice.” I batted my eyelashes at him. “So four years at the University of California San Diego didn’t scrub the New York out of me?” Laughing, he said, “Hardly. I know some guys from New York. One of them is from Staten Island, which is about as New York as it gets. I know New York when I hear it.” “I’m from Purchase, upstate from the city. What about you?” “I’m from all over. My old man is a retired general. You name it, I’ve lived there.” “Where’s home?” “Right here.” He turned that intense gaze on me, and I went stupid in the head. I couldn’t see anything but him. We might as well have been alone in the crowded bar for all I knew. Unlike my friend, who loved men in uniform, I was never turned on by the uniform. Until then. Until John. “You want to get out of here?” I swallowed hard. It wasn’t like me to leave a bar with a man I’d just met. “And go where?” “Somewhere we can talk.” “What do you want to talk about?” He leaned in so his lips were close to my ear. “Everything. I want to know every single thing there is to know about you.”   That’s how we started. We were intense from the first second we met until the last time I saw him five years ago today. I can’t believe it’s been five years since I looked into those incredible blue eyes or woke to him on the pillow next to me or heard his voice in my ear, whispering words that’re permanently carved into my heart as he made love to me. The worst part is I have no idea where he is. I don’t know if he’s alive or dead, being held captive or if he’s living his life somewhere else with someone else. I don’t know, and the not knowing is the hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with. I love him as much today as I ever did. No amount of time could ever change that simple fact of my life. We had two beautiful, magnificent years together, caught up in our own little bubble. He never met my family. I never met his. We didn’t make couple friends. We didn’t talk about the future. We didn’t need to. Our future was decided that first night, and it would take care of itself in due time. I honestly and naïvely believed that. Now, with hindsight, I realize the bubble was strategic on his part. He gave me everything he had to give, including no promise of tomorrow. Five years ago today, we watched the horror unfold on live television. A US-based cruise ship blown up by suicide bombers. Four thousand lives extinguished in a heartbeat. Our world permanently changed once again, our country declaring yet another war on terrorists. After 9/11 we thought we’d seen everything. We were wrong. “I have to go,” he said, grabbing the duffel that stood ready in the front hall closet. He called it his “go bag.” I’d thought nothing of it. “Where’re you going?” “I don’t know.” “When will you be back?” “I don’t know that either.” He held my face in his hands and gazed at me, seemingly trying to memorize my every feature. “I love you. I’ll always love you.” Then he kissed me as passionately as he ever had and was gone, out the door in a flash of camouflage. I never saw him again. I’m not his wife or even his fiancée, so no one notified me of his whereabouts. And three months after he left, when I found a way onto the base in a desperate quest for information, no one there could tell me anything either. I tried to locate his parents and other people he mentioned, but it was like they didn’t exist. I could find no record of a retired general named West in the Marine Corps, Army or Air Force. Furthermore, an exhaustive search for information on the John West I had known led nowhere. No high school, no college, no military service, no nothing. Sometimes I wonder if I dreamed the two years we spent together, doing mundane things like grocery shopping, cooking, watching TV and sleeping together after long days at work. But then I’d remember the blissful passion, the scorching pleasure, the desire that ruled us from the beginning, and I’d know I didn’t dream him. I didn’t dream us. We were real, and he was everything to me. Sitting on the floor in our apartment, surrounded by boxes, I take a few minutes before the movers arrive to memorize every detail of the place where we lived together. I’ve packed his things along with mine, and I’m moving home to New York. Today was my deadline. I gave it five years, and I simply can’t do it anymore. I can’t sit in our home among our things, waiting for something that’s never going to happen. It’s over. It’s time for me to move on. It’s probably long past time, if I’m being honest with myself. And though I know it’s the right move at the right time, that doesn’t mean my heart isn’t shattering all over again as I dismantle the place where we were us. My sister is getting married next month. I promised her I’d be home in time to hold her hand through the festivities. Other than occasional trips home for holidays and other occasions, I’ve been gone more than ten years. I bear no resemblance whatsoever to the girl who left home at eighteen seeking independence from her overbearing family at a faraway college out West. I accomplished all my goals, finishing college, landing a decent job and falling in love with the man of my dreams. I found out what happens when dreams come true and how painful it is when they blow up in your face. It’s time now to set new goals, to start over, to begin a life that doesn’t have John at the center of it the way it did here. It’ll be nice to be back with people who love me and care about me, even if they tend toward smothering at times. That’s looking rather good to me after years of loneliness and grief. The intercom sounds to let me know the movers are here. I pick myself up off the floor and steel my heart for the day ahead. I can do this. I’ve been through worse, and I’ll survive this the same way I’ve survived everything else. Despite my resolve, my eyes fill with tears as I press the button that opens the door downstairs to the movers. It doesn’t take them long to pack my belongings into their truck. I keep with me the things that can’t be replaced—precious photos, gifts he gave me, the clothing he left behind. After taking a final look around the apartment, I pack those boxes into my car, turn my apartment keys into the leasing office and head east, feeling as if I’m leaving behind everything that ever mattered to me. It’s like I’m losing him all over again. I cry all the way through the desert of Southern California and well into Arizona. I relive every minute I can remember, every conversation, every special moment. I think about what it was like to make love with him and wonder how I’ll ever to do that with anyone but him. Maybe I won’t. Maybe that part of my life ended with him, and even though I’m only twenty-eight now, I’m okay with that possibility. Once you’ve experienced perfection, it’s hard to imagine settling for anything less. The tears finally dry up somewhere in northern Arizona, but the ache inside… I take that with me all the way to New York, where I will try my very best to pick up the pieces of my shattered life and put them back together into some new version of myself. After all, what choice do I have?

Review: VOW OF ATONEMENT by Emma Renshaw!

My Review: And my reading streak continues! This book hit me right in the feels. And by that, I mean this book punched me right in the heart, and I loved every second of it. Second-chance romances are my jam (along with a million other things), because I love that shared history, the feeling of abandonment and betrayal, that fight to make things right during a second go-around. And boy oh boy, you get plenty of that here.

Not only was this an emotional thrill-ride, but it was a suspenseful one too. I was never quite prepared for everything that happened, and that made this quite the page-turner. This was one of those "maybe my boss won't notice if I don't come back from lunch" sort of books. I mean, really, is my job so important when compared to needing to know what happened next?! This author did a fantastic job writing characters I cared about, a relationship that I was deeply engaged in, and a story that had me desperate for more.

Cover Lovin': Yum!

Recommendation: Standalone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! This is a second-chance romance that you will NOT want to miss!

Review: FORD by Samantha Chase!

My Review: This is my second "7 Brides for 7 Soldiers" book, and I think it's my favorite of the two. I fell in love with Ford almost instantly.. Though I'll admit I wanted to shake him silly a few times. He just needed to open his eyes and see all the good stuff he had! Especially since he and Callie were so adorable. I could practically see the heart emojis floating around their heads every time they were near each other.

I just have to comment on one of my favorite scenes - right after Ford and Callie meet again for the first time in years, and he's staying in her loft for the evening, Callie is laying in bed, trying not to squeal in delight because Ford had been in her bed, even if it was only for a couple seconds. I grinned like an idiot when I read that, because it is just so darned cute. I can't wait for more books in this "7 Brides for 7 Soldiers" series, because so far, they're quality reads!

Cover Lovin': Fits perfectly with the rest of the 7 Brides for 7 Soldiers series!

Recommendation: Works as a stand-alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! A great, fast read. Can't wait for more in this series!

Happy Reading!

About FORD

There are three things Ford Garrison wants more than anything: to build, to report to no one, and the chance to live his life without the prying eyes of the good folks of Eagle’s Ridge. Having spent ten years in the Navy as part of their construction battalion, he was able to live out most of that dream. Two out three wasn’t bad, right? Now that he’s out of the service, things aren’t falling into place quite as easily as he hoped and he ends up back home with all eyes on him. It wasn’t as if Callie had gone out of her way to end up in Ford’s path, but somehow that happened all on its own and the town gossips were having a field day! Could she help it that she was living in the house Ford had hoped to claim as his own or that the work on his grandmother’s ranch meant they were living not fifty-feet away from each other? Ford was determined to come home, do a job to help his grandmother and leave. Callie James is a distraction and she represents everything he has spent years running away from. Now he’s at odds with his friends, his family and himself about where his home and future are going to be. Could he walk away from Eagle’s Ridge a second time?

“What are you working on out here? More wreaths?” With a soft laugh, she pulled back and stepped out of his arms. “I am. Doing something like this is normally very soothing for me. When I got home, I came right out here rather than going into the cottage.” “And did it help?” Callie shook her head. “Unfortunately, it was so quiet out here, and I’ve already made four of these wreaths so I didn’t even have to think about what I was doing.” “So your mind immediately went to your mom.” She nodded. “Exactly.” Stepping around her, Ford examined the wreath. It looked exactly like the one she had given him for his grandmother’s front door, but now he took the time to look at the details. It seemed so simple at first glance, but when he realized how much time went into weaving the lights and how tedious that could be, he was more than a little impressed. The vine was fragile, and he knew he’d more than likely crush some of it if he tried to do it himself. Unable to help himself, he reached for one of Callie’s hands and studied it. It was small and delicate. Her fingers were slim and smooth. No wonder she could do work like this. He looked at her face and saw her studying him, her expression serious. And Callie rarely looked serious or intense. Her features were always relaxed or smiling. This was…different. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her palm. “I was just noticing how intricate this work is,” he said gruffly. “I’m a little in awe of what you do.” “Me? But…what you do is so much more—” Ford placed a finger over her lips and shook his head. “I’m in awe of you,” he repeated, and slowly pulled her in close again. Callie’s lips parted on a soft gasp as her eyes met his. And those beautiful eyes seemed to have a million questions in them, and Ford only had one answer. He kissed her. Slowly. Sweetly. He savored her as she melted against him. She hummed as her arms wrapped around him and in that instant, Ford knew what he had to do. He lifted his head and looked down at her. Her lips were wet and her cheeks were flushed and she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. So many nights over the last week they’d been like this, and right now, Ford knew he wanted more. “Come home with me, Callie,” he murmured against her lips before resting his forehead against hers. “Yes.” Never had a single word sounded sweeter.

Review: RYDER by Barbara Freethy!

Fall in love with seven sexy and irresistible soldiers who find their courage and heart tested like never before in the battle for love! This multi-author collaborative series of contemporary romance novels is brought to you by bestselling authors Barbara Freethy, Roxanne St. Claire, Christie Ridgway, Lynn Raye Harris, Julia London, Cristin Harber and Samantha Chase. You won't want to miss a single one!

My Review: There I was, exhausted after a long day at work, thinking I'd read a bit of this before bed - no way! Once I started reading Ryder, I had to finish. This was just such a good, fun read that I didn't want to put it down. And it was no hardship - it moves so fast that hours passed before I even realized it. I got sucked in, and I enjoyed every second of it.

This is one of those romance tropes that is a classic, but I haven't seen it done in a while - two feuding families, and a "forbidden" romance. And Barbara Freethy writes a great, believable tale of old family feuding. No surprise there, Freethy is a well known, and well loved name when it comes to romance... and if she's not already in your TBR pile, she should be!

Cover Lovin': Fits perfectly with the rest of the series.

Recommendation: Works just fine as a stand alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! Cute, fun, one sitting read!

Happy Reading!

Prologue

"We're hit! We're hit!" Navy pilot Ryder Westbrook heard the panicked words of his copilot, Michael Valdez, but he was too busy trying to regain control of the SH-60 Seahawk helicopter to reply. They were coming back from a humanitarian mission—having dropped food, water and medical supplies into the rugged and remote villages of Afghanistan—when they'd taken enemy fire. They weren't going to make it back to the carrier in the Persian Gulf. They were going to have to set down somewhere, hopefully far from the rebel forces that had just shot at them. His heart pounded against his chest, but he remained calm, his training playing through his head as he went through every option to retain control of the twin-engine helicopter. Flying was in his blood. The helo had always felt like an extension of his own power, but now that power was crumbling, and he was being forcibly reminded of just how fragile life could be. But he couldn't quit. There had to be a way out. Unfortunately, his optimism was dampened by the fact that the ground was getting closer by the second, and his crew was depending on him to get them down safely. His copilot had a wife and a baby back in the States. Colin Forbes, the sensor operator, was getting married in a month. And he…well, he still had things he wanted to do. He had to keep them all alive. Searching the ground for a viable landing site, he spotted what appeared to be a flat, open rural area. Not only did he want to protect his crew, he didn't want to hurt anyone on the ground. Glancing over at Michael, he saw his friend making the sign of the cross. "We're not going to die," he said emphatically, drawing Michael's gaze to his. "Not today. Not this time." He could see the hope in Michael's eyes. His friend wanted to believe him. Hell, he wanted to believe himself. He'd been in tight spots before, and he'd always come out on top. It had been that way his entire life. Growing up in Eagle's Ridge, he'd been the golden boy—the one who set new records, who made things happen, who achieved whatever he went after. But this was real life. This was happening now, and he was the only one who could save all their lives. In ten years of naval service, he'd never encountered a situation exactly like this. He'd never felt so worried that his number might really be up. He shook the negative thought out of his head, squaring his jaw, tightening his hand on the controls, as he rode the bird down to the ground. The impact was harder than he'd expected, the helicopter shattering into pieces of fiery metal. And when everything went black, he fought against the idea that this might be it. He had more he wanted to do, people he should have made peace with a long time ago, a home that beckoned to him—the Blue Mountains, the Snake River, the people of Eagle's Ridge—a life still to be lived. He needed more time… He just didn't know if he was going to get it.

Review: DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE by Jackie Ashenden!

Release Date:
 May 2nd, 2017

About the Book: Nothing about Sullivan "Van" Tate is what it seems. A Navy SEAL raised among the New York City elite, Van prefers heart-pounding action over a Wall Street corner office. But when his adoptive father dies and his business rivals move in to overtake his empire, Van must suit up to save the company and protect the one woman most forbidden to him…and the object of Van's most dangerous desires.

Chloe Tate is as ambitious as she is gorgeous. With a newfound independence, Chloe is no longer a prisoner on her father’s ranch. But everything changes when losing her father may also mean losing her life. Even with her survival on the line, Chloe can’t deny the burning attraction she feels the moment she locks eyes with Van, her rich, rough and ready, foster brother and the new head of her father’s company. Tall, dark, and muscled, he's the one man who she has no business being with. But how can she resist a Navy Seal Warrior when he’ll do anything to protect her?

My Review: What's better than a billionaire? A billionaire Navy SEAL! And what's hotter and naughtier than a billionaire Navy SEAL? A billionaire Navy SEAL that has the hots for his foster sister. Does that make you nervous? Fear not, dear reader, there's nothing creepy about this romance. To say this family was not close is putting it mildly. Chloe and Van hadn't seen each other in nearly a decade. Honestly, that little bit of almost-taboo just adds a dab of spice to this already hot novel.

Jackie Ashenden has been on my to-read list for far too long, and I finally got to dip my toe in her back-list waters with the Motor City Rebels series. And as much as I enjoy those, Dangerous Billionaire beats them, by far. If the rest of the Tate Brothers series is like this one? This will beat my previous reads hands down. This author is great at writing gritty stories, and hot heroes. The Dangerous Billionaire is not exception. Make sure to add this book to your wish-list - you won't be disappointed!

Cover Lovin': Goodness me, look at that lovely chest.

Recommendation: Book one, no prior knowledge necessary. But be warned, the hero and heroine are foster siblings (though they haven't seen each other in years), so if that's not your thing...

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! This hot, hard Navy SEAL has been added to my harem of book boyfriends. And I can't wait for the next Tate brother to get his story!

Make sure to get your copy of Dangerous Billionaire from Amazon.com today!

Happy Reading!

Review: SHOPPING FOR AN HEIR: THE INHERITANCE by Julia Kent

Release Date: September 20th, 2016

Type: Series, Contemporary, Military, Series-but-stand-alone, Let's Get Back Together

My Review: I was a little nervous going into this, because this is actually a later book in the series. But apparently, they work as stand-alones, and Gerald isn't actually related to the family, just works for them. And I'm glad I gave this one a chance, because it really was very cute. I actually chuckled out loud when Suzanne had her terrible dates, forced to deal with negging, and getting conned into talking about very interesting fetish play. And the students in Gerald's art class - what a group!

I probably would have given this book five stars for entertainment value alone, but I had to knock it down a star for feeling like it was over-reaching a little. This plot was well done, fascinating, interesting... but it felt like it was too much for the amount of space this book was given. I needed the end to be more fleshed out. It just felt like it wrapped up too quickly, which felt a bit unsatisfying. So many side characters were given time to shine, it almost felt like Gerald and Suzanne were pushed to the side too often. But I would gladly check out more by this author - I'd especially like to check out Declan's story.

Cover Lovin': Maybe a little cluttered, but everything there is relevant, at least!

Recommendation: I'm a newbie to this series as well, so I'm living proof that there's no prior knowledge necessary. Though I'd love to read Declan's story!

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5). This was great. It felt like almost too much plot for the amount of space therein, but I was definitely engaged throughout the whole book.

Review: A MAN OF HONOR by Miranda Liasson!

Release Date: June 20th, 2016

Type: Brother's Best Friend, Contemporary, Romance, Military hero, Damaged, "For your own good," Just Kiss Already!

About the Book: Former Army Captain and venture capitalist Preston Guthrie has always had a thing for Cat Kingston, but he never felt like he could date his best friend’s sister. Plus, he’s a wrong-side-of-the-tracks guy and she’s a white-picket-fence kind of woman. Yet when they met again just before he was deployed, sparks flew. A fire ignited. And the heat was hot. For the first time, he thought a relationship with her might be possible…until an injury in the war changed everything…

Journalist Cat Kingston had a rough couple of years, surviving a broken engagement and the loss of her job. But connecting with Preston last fall seemed right. They shared steamy Skype sessions while he was overseas—until he was wounded, and cut her off without explanation. Now he’s back in town to be the Best Man for her sister’s wedding…and she wants answers.

Preston’s struggling with a leg wound, but the war scarred him on the inside, too. When Cat pays him a surprise visit and her brother catches them in a compromising position, Preston tells him they’re dating. He’s not sure how he can spend the entire wedding week fake-dating her when the chemistry between them feels anything but… [Description from Goodreads.com]

My Review: You guys know I'm a sucker for the brother's best friend trope. I can't resist. I assume because I don't really have older siblings, and therefore never had them, or their friends, teasing me when I was younger - so, you know, I can romanticize it a bit. So of course, I jumped at the chance to read and review this book. And add to that the fact that our dreamy hero Preston is a military man? Well, I was amazed I was able to keep myself from melting right then and there.

Guys, this book was great. Seriously. I loved seeing Preston fight his feelings, and watching Cat fight right back. Sure, there was some cheese - pretending to be in a relationship to save face? C'mon, there had to be better ways to handle that. But as cheesetastic as it might have been, it still added an interesting dynamic to the story, and their relationship.

But the best part about this book was watching the slow burn between them. Sometimes there were flash-bang moments, when they would collide and kiss (or more!), until sanity brought Preston and Cat back to earth. But it was that simmering connection, pressing them together more and more, that made them realize they had to be together, because they couldn't be apart. That, right there, is what made this book a great read. I didn't want to put it down. Don't miss out on this one. And you better believe I will be checking out more by this author in the future!

Cover Lovin': Nice! And I appreciate the inclusion of Preston's tattoo. Also, I've read several of Entangled Publishing's Indulgence line, and this fits right along with those.

Recommendation: No prior knowledge necessary. But while this isn't technically a series, this author has written a book featuring Cat's sister prior to this.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! An awesome, un-put-downable read!

Whoever this woman was, he was certain she was not a prostitute. His friends weren’t that tacky. But no reason he couldn’t play along for a bit. Even with his bum leg, he’d had plenty of offers from sympathetic young things pining to do their patriotic duty for a fallen soldier. He’d never been that desperate. Still wasn’t. But he’d love a distraction. Love to forget everything for just a few moments: the pain, the hell, the woman he’d left in the dust. The lady in black sashayed across the room to stand directly behind him, where he couldn’t easily turn to see her face. She looped cool hands over his eyes, leaning her elbows on the top of his chair. Raindrops rolled off her jacket and landed on his neck, sending a slight shiver cascading down his back. A clean, delicate fragrance he couldn’t quite place enveloped him in a cloud of scent. “What would you like tonight, soldier?” Her voice was smooth as silk, but her hands trembled, making him think she must be young, inexperienced. She brushed her lips softly along his neck. He would put a stop to this nonsense in a minute, but God, it felt too damn good to be touched. The image that played before his eyes, stabbing his heart with the same immutable pain as his worthless leg, was of another woman, not vampy, not sultry. Soft blond hair, a smile as sweet as homemade sugar cookies at Christmas. More slender than curvy, but just right for his tastes. There’d been a time before his injury when he’d almost believed he could make up for his shitty upbringing and be the man she needed. But not anymore. And not ever. The war had changed all that. That scent. Lavender, that’s what it was. Sweet and old fashioned, a huge contrast to her provocative behavior. Familiar. And that voice, too, once you peeled off the layers of that phony lilt. His heart accelerated, his senses sharpening with suspicion. “Why are you here?” he asked as casually as he could manage while he reached up his hands and curved them around her wrists. Slender, just like hers. “Your friends sent me to show you a good time,” she said. He ran his hands lightly up her arms, stopping just below her elbow. His heart pumped equal parts dread and anticipation through his body. Too many coincidences had raised his spy sense. Her timidity, the disguise, the sweet smell that had permeated his dreams every bloody night in the hot, arid desert. This was no stripper. Or dancer. Or whatever masquerade she was playing at. He didn’t know how or why, but he’d recognize Catherine Kingston if he was blind and deaf. His hands stilled at her elbows. For one moment, he stroked the soft skin, enjoying the forbidden feel of her. Then he tightened his hold, pivoted his shoulders, and sent her tumbling into his lap. The hood tipped back, and he found himself staring into a pair of angry eyes the color of a September sky. “What the—” She struggled against him, but he didn’t ease up. His leg might be just about useless, but everywhere else, he was lock-grip strong. He’d pinned her as easily as a judo master’s takedown. “What the hell are you doing here?” he asked. teaser 1 About Miranda Liasson: Miranda Liasson-2-2 Miranda Liasson loves to write stories about courageous but flawed characters who find love despite themselves, because there’s nothing like a great love story.
